What’s Happening on Friday September 6th
Sept 6 – BBQ Fundraiser for Big Brother Big Sisters of South Shore
Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Shore is hosting a BBQ fundraiser all weekend long at Gow’s Home Hardware & Furniture! All proceeds go towards programming for the youth of Lunenburg and Queens County. Come out and enjoy a hotdog or hamburger all for a good cause!
Sept 6 – Rum Running Stories and Tastings
Ironworks Distllery is hosting an evening of Rum Running Stories & Tastings. Join bartender/writer Shane Beehan for an evening of history & rum cocktail samples starting at 7pm. Tickets are $35 per person, must be 19+.
Sept 6 – Karaoke Night at Chester Legion
Do you have a “go-to” Karaoke song? Here’s your chance to dazzle your friends. Head to the Chester Legion – Branch 44 for Karaoke Night this Friday from 9-12:30, no cover charge, members and guests welcome.
Sept 6 – Jimmy Rankin Band at The Shore Club
The Shore Club – Hubbards NS welcomes Jimmy Rankin Band back for a fun-filled evening of music and dancing. Jimmy brings the full band up from Nashville to celebrate his new CD “Moving East” which is pure East Coast, featuring true stories, tall tales and bittersweet ballads, and the classic folk-rock sound that Rankin helped pioneer. Tickets are $35 and available through Eventbrite.
Sept 6 – Harvest Moon Band live at The Cellar
Head down to The Route 3 Cellar Taproom & Grill for an evening of all the hits with Harvest Moon. A 6 piece band playing a variety of music including; Country, 50’s-60’s Rock and Roll, Blues, and Classic Rock is sure to start your weekend off right.
Sept 6 – “Love Letters” a play by A.R Gurney
The Mahone Bay Centre hosts ‘Love Letters’ a play by A.R. Gurney. An evocative, heart-warming and touching story as two characters deliver funny and moving excerpts from the notes and letters they sent over their usually affectionate, but often distant lives. Performances Sept 6 & 7 at 7:30pm. Limited seating so please arrive by 7:20pm. Tickets are $10 payable (by cash only) on the door. Wine and soft drinks will also be available for purchase.
What’s Happening on the South Shore Saturday Sept 7th
Sept 7 – Gold River Pow Wow
Make your way to the Gold River Pow Wow and take in the sights, sounds and heritage of the Mi’kmaq people. Established in 1820, the Gold River Reserve, also known as Amapapskegek the Rocky River, is positioned along the west side of picturesque Gold River. The Mi’kmaq people have a long history in the area of using the resources within Gold River and the area surrounding Mahone Bay.
Sept 7 – Maggie’s Playground Penny Auction
Maggie’s Playground hosts it’s annual Penny Auction to raise funds for playground improvements and future equipment purchases. The auction is being held at the Vogler’s Cove Community Hall from 11am – 2pm
Sept 7 – Vendors Fair
South Shore Exhibition is hosting a Vendors Fair from 10am – 4pm. Local Vendors will be on site with lots of items for your shopping pleasure. It’s always a good thing when you support local.
Sept 7 – South Shore Players 25th Anniversary Celebration
For 25 years, the South Shore Players has provided live theatre to the communities on “the South Shore” of Nova Scotia. Join the 25th anniversary Celebration at Trinity United Church from 1pm – 4pm to celebrate this milestone.
Sept 7 – The Peddlers of Nova Scotia Book Talk
Join The Debrisay Museum for a Book Talk by Blain Henshaw “The Peddlers” . Includes two chapters about peddlers who became well known and successful businessmen in Bridgewater, including Herman Rofihe and Lester Rogers. Free admission, donations appreciated. Books and CD’s will be for sale – cash only.
Sept 7 – The Nice Guys live at the Brewery
Saltbox Brewery present James Ramey and Patrick Thompson, aka the Nice Guys. Head on down, sit back, relax and listen to their sound and see whether they live up to their name.
Sept 7 – Gordie MacKeeman & his Rhythm Boys
The Chester Playhouse lends its stage to Gordie MacKeeman & his Rhythm Boys. Led by fiddling wiz Gordie “Crazy Legs” MacKeeman, the roots quartet features all-star pickers and singers, with everything from down-home country to reckless rockabilly to intricate bluegrass. Tickets are $25 available here.
What’s Happening on Sunday September 8th
Sept 8 – Torpedo Rays 22nd Annual Treasure Hunt
It’s that time of year again! The Torpedo Rays’ 22nd annual “Treasure Hunt” at Hubbard’s Beach. Scuba divers are invited to participate in a treasure hunt, there will be a BBQ, charity auction, contests for the kids and scavenger hunt for all participants and their families. All proceeds will be donated to the Children’s Trust Fund Charity. Don’t miss out, there were over 200 participants last year, officially making it the largest Scuba event in Canada!
Sept 8 – Seaweed Tours Storytelling Bus Tour
Operating from historic Lunenburg, Seaweed Tours offers a variety of scenic storytelling tours. Come explore the nooks and crannies of Lunenburg county like the locals do. Tickets are $59 and available via Facebook or Eventbrite.
Sept 8 – Merchandise Bingo
Riverport & District Lions Club is holding a Merchandise Bingo this Sunday. Doors open at 1:45pm, Bingo runs from 2pm – 5pm. Cards are $2, canteen will be available, 50//50 draw as well. Proceeds go towards Camp Lion Maxwell.
Sept 8 – “On the Shore” at West Pubnico Golf & Country Club
Now in its 8th year, the 3-day Yarmouth Seafood & Wine Extravaganza is a must-visit for all seafood and wine lovers! Join them this year for On the Shore with a “Twist of Jamaica”. Featuring cook shop 101 with Jamaican and Acadian chefs, kitchen party, Dougie’s special rum punch, special guest emcee, and more. Tickets are $45 available at The Style Merchant of Hawthorne Street (Yarmouth), Cape Forchu Lighthouse, West Pubnico Golf & Country Club and online via Eventbrite.
Sept 8 – One More Light Mental Health Wellness Expo
Because We Care Fund presents their 2nd annual Mental Health Wellness Expo at the Barrington Lion’s Hall. Professionals from an array of health and wellness fields available from 12pm-5pm 5 followed by Special Speakers at 6 PM. Dutch auction through out day until 4pm. The Canteen, with delicious home made food, will be open as well.
