What’s Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (Sept 13 – 15, 2019)

Well, Hurricane Dorian had her own plans for us last weekend. We are hoping you all weathered the storm safely. Dorians visit and the community spirit that followed after on the South Shore, only reaffirmed what a great place we live in. This weekend has plenty for us to check out and celebrate making it through #dorian. Start scrolling and see what is happening on the South Shore this weekend.

What’s Happening on the South Shore Sept. 13th

Sept 13th – Hupman Brothers live at Firkenstein

Firkenstein Brewery is excited to have the Hupman Brothers take the stage. Sure to be an fun filled evening with the dynamic duo. $5 cover, music starts at 8pm.

Sept 13th – John McGee live at Saltbox Brewery

Join the gang at Saltbox Brewery to listen as John McGee plays some soft tunes and beautiful Ballads. Perfect way to cap off the night either after a relaxing day or if you were doing a whack of chores. No cover, music starts at 7pm.

Sept 13th – Lion King – Movie Night in Liverpool

Fun for the whole family, the Astor Theatre is showing Disney’s animated “The Lion King”. Follow young Simba and his friends on all kinds of adventures. There are no advanced tickets for movies. Doors open 30 minutes before movie starts. $8 for Matinees and $10 for Evening screenings.

Sept 13th – “Love Letters”

A “Hurricane Dorian” storm-date for the second performance of “Love Letters” takes place Friday. An evocative, heart-warming and touching story as two characters deliver funny and moving excerpts from the notes and letters they sent over their usually affectionate, but often distant lives. Performance at 7:30pm.  Limited seating so please arrive by 7:20pm. Tickets are $10 payable (by cash only) on the door.  Wine and soft drinks will also be available for purchase.

Sept 13th – Patricia Winston Quintet at St. Mark’s Place

St. Mark’s Place is pleased to welcome back the Patricia Watson Quintet. Classic jazz, silky smooth with a gospel touch, that’s the music in Patricia Watson. Her voice and songs inspire her audiences so much so that they cannot resist the urge to sing along and participate in this engaging soulful musical experience. What’s Happening on Saturday Sept 14th.

Sept 14th – Firemans Breakfast Dayspring & District Fire Department.

The Dayspring & District Fire Departments delicious monthly breakfast is here again. Come on down to enjoy the best breakfast around the area Doors open at 07:30 ends at 11:00. There will be bacon, eggs, homemade beans, hashbrowns, toast and pancakes! Adults eat for $9.00, Ages 6 to 12 eat for $5.00, Children under 5 and under eat for FREE!

Sept 14th – Chester Basin Community Fun Day

Chester Basin Community Fun Day: Events are happening 11am-3pm at AEnon Baptist Church, family fun zone and games with a free bbq. Then head over from 3pm-5pm to the Chester Basin Legion for some country and bluegrass music, Pig Roast from 5pm-6pm just $10 with all the fixin’s. Music starts at 6pm-8pm and then wrap up with fireworks over the basin at 9pm (be there for 8:45pm). Join for the day or just a portion! This event is RAIN OR SHINE.

Sept 14th – Wild Foods Workshop

What better way to celebrate the coming of fall than foraging for mushrooms and other delightful wild treats. Join the Medway Community Forest’s annual Wild Foods Workshop. The workshop will consist of a foraging and learning expedition focused on the properties of edible plants and plants used in herbal remedies. Following our hike, cook over an open fire consisting of herbal bitters, soup, bread, and tea made with foraged foods. Registration is only $40, contact them to get on the list today!

Sept 14th – Sea Glass Mosaic Workshop

ShoreThing SeaGlass Classes invites you to come to the Mahone Bay Centre and learn how to make a 12” sea glass wreath with resin at their Mosaic Workshop. Perfect for all year round decor. The class fee of $50 includes all supplies. Registration is by e- transfer to: shorethingseaglass@eastlink.ca

Sept 14th – Presentation on Lunenburg County’s Murderous Past

Join historian Peter Oickle at the DeBrisay Museum at 2pm for a presentation on Lunenburg Counties Murderous Past!. He will look at some of the murders that have taken place in the County over the past 200 years, some well-known and others hidden by years. Program Fee of $5.00 per person will be charged.

Sept 14th – Plant Identification Walk

Join Shawn Feener, coordinator of the LaHave River Invasive Species Project, on a Plant Identification Walk. Shawn will guides walkers along the Centennial Trail; identifying edible, native, invasive, poisonous and traditional medicinal plants found in the area. Walkers will meet at Wile Carding Mill Museum 5 pm. Fee is $5.00 per person, under 16 free, children must be accompanied by an adult. Pre- registration required, please call 902-543-8233 to reserve your spot.

Sept 14th – Full Moon Paddle

Come join Cape LaHave Adventures for a special evening of kayaking in the LaHave Islands on the eve of the September full moon. Launch in time to enjoy the sunset and return in the quiet of the night, as the full moon rises. Launch is at 7pm, please arrive 15mins prior to departure, paddle til 9 pm
$40 per person. Reservations required.

Sept 14th – Full Moon Hike

Groundwork is looking to mix business with pleasure, in this case a Full Moon Hike. Looking for a different way to connect with other local entrepreneurs? Get together and talk about how you balance business and life. Let’s share with each other while we walk! Meet at the Indian Path Common parking lot (395 Fish Peddler Rd, Indian Path) 6pm (the walk is ~2 hours) Cost: Please bring $5 to the event. Please sign up in advance.

Sept 14th – Garrett Mason & Richard MacDonald at Chester Playhouse

Chester Playhouse Theatre is happy to bering back Garret Mason and Richard MacDonald. One of the acknowledged best guitarists in the country, Garrett Mason is always a pleasure to see perform. Whether he’s delicately finger-picking or wailing away, the man sure can play! Joining him on stage, Richard & Somebody’s Kids is an easy going Halifax band that plays gritty original country/rock and bluesy music. Grab a ringside seat and enjoy the full card. Tickets are $25 and available via Vendini.

Sept 15th – Oak Island Mystery (a performance)

St. James’ Church proudly presents “The Oak Island Mystery”. Watch centuries and theories unfold in one hilarious performance. Dessert and refreshment provided.  Tickets $20, available at Kinburn Pharmasave. 

Sept 15th – Nova Scotia Open Farm Day

Open Farm Day is an annual, province wide event held on the third Sunday in September. Open Farm Day creates the opportunity for participating Nova Scotia farmers to open their doors to members of their community. Take advantage of this great opportunity and visit as many of these farms as possible. Share stories, ask questions, get involved and most importantly have fun! Sept 15th – Zumba in the Park

Zumba® in the Park is back!! Come join Zumba with Mindy as she brings the party back outside! Get out, get up and move the music, it doesn’t matter if you know all the moves, as long as you are having fun! Cost is $5 per person, with a chances to win 5-class punch cards. This event is weather permitting

Sept 15th – The Green Reflectors at Debrisay Museum

The Green Reflectors bring their live crazy surf music to the DeBrisay Museum. Come out and be loud as they will be doing an audio taping of the show!
