This weekend marks the 100th Anniversary of the launching of the Bluenose, which is amazing! The Bluenose is an incredible symbol of Canada, recognized all around the world, built and launched right here on the South Shore in Lunenburg . There are some virtual celebrations happening, but why not pack up the kids for a day trip to see where it all happened. What’s Happening on Friday March 26th, 2021

Mar 26 – Bluenose 100 Virtual Celebrations

The Bluenose 100 Committee is excited to share its plans for a Virtual Celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Launching Bluenose. This first virtual event is scheduled to take place at 10am on Friday, the exact time Bluenose was launched. It will feature exciting new videos, stories, historical footage and interviews explaining the vessel’s place in Canadian history. A second virtual event is planned for 7pm that evening and will see Bluenose’s story further explored through musicians, performers and writers. Mar 26 – Bluenose 100 Launch Celebration- Live Stream Viewing Brunch (Lunenburg)

The Grand Banker Bar & Grill is hosting a special Bluenose 100 Launch Celebration this Friday starting at 9am. Enjoy a delicious Brunch and celebrate the 100th anniversary of the launch of the Bluenose watching the live streamed event from the Bluenose 100 Committee . Mar 26 – Senior’s Pick Up Hockey (Lunenburg)

Lunenburg Arena hosts Seniors Pick Up Hockey on Fridays from 1-2:30pm. Gear up and play some shinny. This session are for those age 50+, cost is $10/session.

Mar 26 – Public Skates at the LCLC (Bridgewater)

Public and Adult Skates continue on at the LCLC in Bridgewater. Pack up your skates, your family and bubble people and enjoy some skating. Why not make a stop at a local restaurant or coffee shop part of your day out?

Mar 26 – BIPOC Youth Cafe Poetry Night with Deirdre Lee (Mahone Bay)

BIPOCSS Youth Cafe is a drop in for Black, Indigenous, People of Colour & Queer/2SLGBTQ+ youth 14 and up at The Biscuit Eater Cafe & Books in Mahone Bay! This Friday, we have a special guest Deirdre Lee joining us to share some of her poetry, talk about poeming & writing poems of our own. Mar 26 – Jake and the Other Two live at FirkenStein (Bridgewater)

Jake and the Other Two (most of fan favourite band BucketList) are heading to FirkenStein Brewing this Friday. Join them for a cold brew, good music and a great way to kick off the weekend.

Mar 27 – Town of Bridgewater Spring Scavenger Hunt (Bridgewater)

The Town of Bridgewater is welcoming Spring in the cutest way with their Spring Scavenger Hunt! Hop on over to Woodland Gardens and the Duck Pond to search for seven adorable toy bunny figurines. All the bunnies can be seen from the trail, your mission is to find a minimum of 5 bunnies and either take a selfie with each OR identify what each bunny is holding. You can enter the scavenger hunt by emailing your entry info to recreation@bridgewater.ca. All submissions will be entered in a random prize draw. The contest ends April 6, 2021. Mar 28 – Easter Rock Hunt with the MODL (Various Locations)

Easter is just around the corner and the Lunenburg Recreation Department have set up an Easter Rock Hunt just for you! Hunt for painted rocks throughout some of our parks and trails, each rock has a secret code word on the back. For every 10 codes you find, you will receive 1 entry into our random prize draws! Send your code words and/or photos to recreation@modl.ca to be entered! Please DO NOT REMOVE the rocks from their locations so everyone has a chance to play! Mar 28 – Free Sensory Friendly Family + Friends Skate (Lunenburg)

Join Autism Nova Scotia, South Shore Chapter for a free sensory friendly, afternoon skate! Open to all ages. The rink will be closed to the general public, music will be turned off and lighting will be dimmed. Skate helpers are available and we encourage you to bring your own helmet. Skates not essential, please wear clean sneakers. Pre-registration is required and we cannot accept drop ins at this time due to current restrictions.
