Roll on August! Another long weekend is headed our way and there is a ton of fun things to do here on the South Shore. There is everything from mackerel fishing to gallery open houses, family campfires to store grand openings, schooner racing to vintage market, fish & chip suppers and of course lots of music! July 31 – Celtic Raven Fibres “Online Trunk Sale” (Shelburne)
Celtic Raven Fibres is hosting an On Line Trunk Sale this weekend. It will take place Friday, July 31, 1-3 and Saturday, Aug 1, 1-3. If you are in the area stop by the shop! There will be appointment times available and up to 4 people will be welcomed into the shop at a time. There will be a door prize for viewers, on line purchasers and in shop purchasers. There will be beverages and snacks for those who can make it to the shop! Bring along your current WIP, driveway knitting is in effect, bring a lawn chair and join in. Social distancing protocols will be in place, masks indoors will be required.
July 31 – BBQ Supper and Music at Fort Point Museum (Lahave)
The Fort Point Museum is hosting a BBQ Supper and Live Music event this Friday starting at 6:30pm. Tickets are $15/Ticket and reservations are required. Ticket includes BBQ supper and live music with Patrick Thompson on our scenic grounds at the mouth of the LaHave River. The number of tickets has been restricted to 50 to meet COVID regulations. Call 902-688-1632 by July 29th to reserve tickets or visit us at 100 Fort Point Road, LaHave, NS, Tues – Sat, between 11am – 5pm. We accept Cash (exact change only) at the museum, and can accept e-transfers as well.
July 31 – Wild Blueberry U-Pick (Clyde River)
This Wild Blueberry U-Pick is located 1 km north off Hwy 103 on the Upper Clyde Road, in Clyde River. Open daily 9-4 pm, weather permitting, and open all holiday weekend. Check their facebook page for daily updates, field conditions and COVID-19 protocol including social distancing. Blueberries are only $2./ lb. Please bring your own containers. July 31 – Kristen Martell live at St. Mark’s Place (Middle LaHave)
St. Mark’s Place presents Kristen Martell with her full band this Friday at 7:30pm. Kristen is an acoustic folk/pop artist from Mahone Bay, NS. Her songs explore the self and the way we walk through life. Tickets are $20 per person.. With only 34 tickets available due to COVID restrictions, this is sure to be an intimate night of stories and songs. Reserve your spot by email today.
July 31 – Nick Jeffrey live at Bayport Pub (Riverport)

Aug 1 – Four Points Vintage Market (Blockhouse)
Join The Four Points Vintage Market and The Brindle Boston for the first annual Four Points Vintage Market. Located on a 150-year-old farmstead, vendors will be spread out over the fields and neighbouring hall, this promises to be the vintage event of the summer! You will find a large collection of vendors with quality antiques, vintage, mid century, re-purposed and reclaimed treasures and some amazing makers.
Aug 1 – SUP Essentials with Cape LaHave Adventures (LaHave)
Cape LaHave Adventures invites you to Learn to stand up paddleboard (SUP), with their SUP Essentials course this Saturday from 9:30-11:30am. This 2hr course introduces the beginner to the everything you need to know for stand up paddling in enclosed sheltered waters and calm conditions. Skills covered include launching, landing, forward & turning strokes, and safety awareness – No experience required! Includes: Instructor, SUP board & paddling gear. The course fee is $65, registration required.
Aug 1 – Grand Opening Sea Witch Collectibles (Maders Cove)
Sea Witch Collectables invites you to the Grand Opening of their Studio Shop. Help celebrate the realization of a life long dream and browse the ocean inspired art and collectibles. Visit this Saturday, opens at 10am. COIVD protocols, masks and social distancing in place.
Aug 1 – Saturdays in the Park (Lunenburg)
The Lunenburg Folk Harbour Festival is proud to bring back Saturdays in the Park. Live, local music every Saturday from 2-3pm at the Bandstand. This Saturday they welcome Caribou Run. Gran your lawn chairs, sunscreen and snacks for a lovely afternoon out. Social Distancing protocols will be in effect.
Aug 1 – Lawn Chair Festival (Shelburne)
Osprey Arts Centre and David Burbine& Traditional Country are so excited to announce the Lawn Chair Festival! Shows will be held at the Guild Hall in Shelburne at 2pm and with kick things off with Ryan Cook this Saturday. The shows will be delivered with all social distancing and mask wearing standards upheld. NO SEATING WILL BE PROVIDED! Bring your lawn chairs or stand!
Aug 1 – Drive Thru Fish & Chips Walden Fire Department (Mahone Bay)
Walden Volunteer Fire Department usually hosts a Summer Bash, however COVID had other plans. This year their fundraiser will be a Drive Thru Fish & Chip Supper! All orders are a two 4 oz fresh fillets of haddock, Fries, Tartar sauce, coleslaw and pop/water for $13.00. They would greatly appreciate Pre Orders via email, face book messenger, call or text (902)529-0353 or (902)541-0056. E-transfer and Credit will be accepted. They also ask that people remain in their vehicles and a department member will bring your order to you. There will be signs set as to entrance and exit of department yard. Proceeds are for the Walden Volunteer Fire Department.
Aug 1 – Grand Opening of the Andora Gallery (Liverpool)
This is the opening of a new Andora Gallery in Liverpool, featuring the International fine artist Peter MacWhirter MFA. His ceramics and original prints will be on display, and new artworks will be updated regularly. Stop in this Saturday between 2pm-4pm to check things out. All COVID protocols including masks and social distancing will be in place.
Aug 1 – South Shore Drive In presents “Jurassic Park” (Mill Village)
South Shore’s Drive-In movie this Saturday is “Jurasssic Park“. A pragmatic palaeontologist visiting an almost complete theme park is tasked with protecting a couple of kids after a power failure causes the park’s cloned dinosaurs to run loose – PG13. Price $10 per vehicle. Parking opens at 9pm, Movie starts at 10pm. Concessions available on location. Head over to Saltbox Brewery this Saturday for Outlaw Country Night. Join Steve Abbott & Tony Trimper for something a little different. Music starts at 7pm.
Aug 1 – Kaylyn Turner live at Osprey Nest (Petite Riviere)
Head to Osprey’s Nest Public house this Saturday from 6-9 and enjoy the music of Kaylyn Turner. With not one, but two patios, there is plenty of room to sit outside, enjoy a meal, beverage and great music.

Aug 2 – NSSA Schooner Races (Mahone Bay)
Mahone Bay Civic Marina is excited to be hosting the NSSA 2020 Schooner Races in Mahone Bay! The event will be hosted by the Mahone Bay Civic Marina and the Heritage Boatyard Coop. Races start this Sunday at 8am and It’s shaping up to be a great event and we are expecting 12-14 Schooners, including a visit from the Bluenose ll. Pack a picnic or grab some take out and enjoy a day at the races.
Aug 2 – All Levels Vinyasa Yoga (Bridgewater)
Yoga with Katherine presents an All Levels Vinyasa Yoga Class held in an outdoor setting. Moving with our breath, we will build heat in the body with sun salutations and explore classic hatha yoga postures building on throughout the summer. You must register and pay for class ahead of time to hold your spot. Classes are $10 each or you can purchase a 5 class pass for $45! Payments for classes must be sent through EMT. Aug 2 – Shelburne County Archives & Genealogical Society Open House (Barrington)
The Shelburne County Archives & Genealogical Society invites you to an Open House this Sunday from 1-8pm. We’re very excited to welcome you all to our new location and show you around. Whether you can stop by for 5 minutes or 50 minutes, we’d love for anyone interested or curious to join us – bring your family & friends! There will be hand sanitizer available at the entrance to the office, we are following all guidelines set out re. wearing masks and 6 foot distancing. We’re looking forward to seeing both old and new friends of the Society
Aug 2 – Family Campfire at the MARC (Dayspring)
Join the District of Lunenburg Recreation this Sunday, for an evening of campfire snacks and games! Head to the MARC for 6:30, for this free, family friendly event. Registration will be on site and all families will be required to read our COVID-19 guidelines upon arrival to ensure safety measures are followed.
Aug 2 – Sundays on the Lunenburg Waterfront (Lunenburg)
Develop NS invites you to Sundays on the Lunenburg Waterfront with musical guests Weather Advisory! This free, family friendly outside event on Lunenburg’s working waterfront happens every second weekend until August 30, 2020 from 2PM to 4PM, come and enjoy live entertainment on the dock. Bring your own chair to the and enjoy the shows!
