Welcome 2021! We are perhaps entering this new year a little easier than others. Making it through 2020 was a lot of work, so it makes sense to ease our way into 2021. The South Shore is ready to help you welcome the new year, and enjoy the many wonderful places and people that it has to offer. Whether you get out for some exercise and get some fresh air, or you prefer to stay indoors checking out some live music, you can find it all here. What’s happening on the South Shore Friday January 8, 2021
Jan 8 – Community Hike/Snowshoe at River Ridge Common (New Germany)
The District of Lunenburg Recreation Department invites you to join them for a casual 5km hike/snowshoe within River Ridge Common. Pack up the kids and head out for the 9am-11am ramble and enjoy the great outdoors. Meet in the parking lot at 4668 Highway 10, in Pinehurst. Please register online or call (902) 541-1343.
Jan 8 – Public Skate at Queen’s Place Emera Centre (Liverpool)
Do the kids still have some unspent energy? Why not pack them up and head to Queen’s Place Emera Centre for some skating this Friday from 1:15-2:15pm. New protocols allow for only 25 skaters at a time on the ice, first come first serve. Please see the centres Facebook Page for all COVID-19 precautions and restrictions.
Jan 8 – Get a start on your 2021 Reading Goals at the South Shore Public Libraries
Did you set some new goals for yourself this year, was reading more books on there? We are lucky to have the South Shore Public Libraries system to help us get started. Local branches are open, with COVID protocols in place, pop in and discover a new series, take a deep dive into some history or introduce your kids to a favourite author. The winter months are perfect for cozying up on the couch with a good book.
Jan 8 – Think Tank Escape Rooms (Bridgewater)
Grab your sharpest bubble members and challenge yourselves to an Escape Room at Think Tank in Bridgewater. With a number of stories to choose from, a great way to exercise your brain during the winter. Check out their website for different mysteries to solve, to book a room and see their COVID protocols.
Jan 8 – Kristen Martell & Daniel McFadyen live at FirkenStein Brewing (Bridgewater)
FirkenStein Brewing is pleased to welcome Kristen Martell & Daniel McFadyen this Friday. Join this twosome for a night of original songs and crowd favourites. Music starts at 8pm.

Jan 9 – Beginners Fat Bike Ride (Mahone Bay)
Sweet Ride Cycling hosts Beginner Fat Bike Rides Saturday mornings. These weekly sessions will run from 9am to 10:30am departing from the public parking lot behind Kinburn Pharmasave in Mahone Bay, and focus on the joy of fat biking from the perspective of a beginner. Follow their Facebook Page for updates on weather cancellations. You can Book bike rentals with the shop before 5pm Friday(s) or join with your own.
Jan 9 – Public Skating at the LCLC (Bridgewater)
Looking to get in some exercise this weekend? Pack up your partner, your kids, heck even your parents and lace on a pair of skates at the LCLC in Bridgewater. What a great way to spend an afternoon or evening.
Jan 9 – Irish Stick Fighting Training (LaHave)
Medieval Swordplay Canada hosts Irish Stick Fighting workshop this weekend from 5-6:30pm. Must be 18yo+ Training sticks supplied. Comfortable clothes and non marking footwear. Hockey gloves are an asset if you have them. $20/person registration in advance. Fee is Non-refundable as spaces are limited and this holds your spot. Spaces limited.
Jan 9 – Ryan Cook live at The Barn (Mahone Bay)
After having to postpone his dates in December, Ryan Cook is coming back to The Barn this weekend. The Barn will host Ryan on Friday and Saturday from 7:30-9pm, with limited seats each night in order to maintain appropriate spacing between parties as per COVID regulations. Tickets are being sold by the table in group sizes of 4-6, cost is $25 per person/ticket. Please e-mail them at for purchasing tickets by E-Trf or with Cash in-person at their Mahone Bay location.
Jan 9 – Stuart Holman live at Osprey Nest Public House (Petite Riviere)
The Osprey Nest Public House is pleased to have Stuart Holman back to perform this Saturday. Stuart is an accomplished instrumentalist, song writer and song stylist, blending his Appalachian roots into rhythm and blues, jazz and country music. Stuart takes the stage from 6-9pm.

Jan 10 – Get Outside at the MARC (Dayspring)
The Municipality of the District of Lunenburg invites you (re)discover The MARC in Dayspring. Offering many opportunities for you to get outside with your family, when the snow flies, go tobogganing and snowshoeing, when safety permits, go skating on the pond. Dress warmly, pack the binoculars and simply go for a hike/walk on the trails, do a little bird watching. Lots to do, and the MODL even has equipment rentals if you are thinking of trying something new.
Jan 9 – Become a member of the Castle Rock Club (Chester)
Tourism Chester encourages you to hike, bike, and ATV to the heights of East River, the top of Castle Rock, and take in panoramic views across all of Mahone Bay. Challenge yourself and become a member of the Castle Rock Club.
Jan 10 – Public Skates at Lunenburg Arena (Lunenburg)
Join in the fun of Public Skates at the Lunenburg Arena this weekend, including Sunday from 6:15pm-7:30pm. Check out their website for more information including COVID protocols in place.
Jan 10 – Cast Iron Cooking with Sam’s Woodland Tours (Dayspring)
What a great way to get outside and learn something new at the same time. Join Sam’s Woodland Tours this Sunday at the MARC as he teaches you about Cast Iron Cooking. Sit around the fire an learn how to bake bread and desserts, oh and you get to sample them as well! A free program, pre-registration is required.
Jan 10 – Ice Rental at Shelburne County Arena (Shelburne)
Get your bubble gang together and book some ice time at the Shelburne County Arena. Max 10 people per booking and masks required on the ice. Call (902) 874-1358 and book a time.
