Jan 29 – Public Skating at Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena (Barrington)
The Sandy Wickens Memorial Arena in Barrington have added two Public Skates this weekend. Friday 5-6pm & Sunday 3-4pm. Max of 50 people on ice at a time. Pre-Registration is required.
Jan 29 – Public Skates at the LCLC (Bridgewater)
Looking to get in some exercise this weekend? Pack up your partner, your kids, heck even your parents and lace on a pair of skates at the LCLC in Bridgewater. What a great way to spend an afternoon or evening. Check out their website for COVID Protocols.
Jan 29 – Take part in the Municipality of Shelburne’s Winter Photo contest
The Shelburne Recreation & Department are holding a Winter Photo Contest from now until March 21st. Pack up the kids and go for a stroll, hike, bike or drive through Shelburne County and start snapping! Submit up to 5 photos for your chance to win a fun prize. See poster above for all the details.

Jan 30 – Pirates & Mermaids Family Adventure Hike (Barrington)
Ahoy! Join Barrington Municipal Recreation Department on a Pirates & Mermaids Family Adventure Hike, this Saturday at 1pm. Meet at the gazebo near the kayak brook and go for a short hike on the multi-use trail and do some adventurous activities along the way. Great for families and stroller friendly. Please dress for the weather. We will postpone until Sunday, January 31 if the seas are too rough. Please register in advance as numbers may be limited depending on public health restrictions. Jan 30 – Winter Tobeatic Hike & Campfire (Upset Falls)
Escape the everyday and enjoy a winter hike in the Tobeatic Wilderness and Campfire Lunch at Upset Falls. This is an easy 1.5 hour hike each way. Menu: Campfire Chilli & Bread Bowls, Warm Campfire Apple Crisp and Coffee, Tea & Hot Chocolate. Jan 30 – Take the Roof Off Winter at the MARC (Dayspring)
The District of Lunenburg Recreation Department is helping you “Take the Roof Off Winter” Saturdays from 10am-3pm at the MARC now until March 6. Enjoy skating, sledding,. snow shoeing and more! Warm up around an afternoon bonfire, complete with marshmallows for roasting. Skis and Snowshoes available for loan (first come first serve). These activities are free, a donation to PRO Kids is welcome. All events are weather permitting.
Jan 30 – Try Out Snowboarding (Chester)
NS Snowboard is offering a free “Learn to Snowboard” workshop this Saturday at CAMS, suitable for ages 5-12. There are 4 different time slots to pick from (10:00 to 10:30 am; 10:45 to 11:15 am; 11:30 to 12:00 pm and 12:15 to 12:45 pm). The sessions will be held outside on special mats and boards that mimic snowboarding movements. All equipment provided. To register call the Chester Recreation Office at (902) 275-3490.
Jan 30 – Cozy Campfire with Sam’s Woodland Tours (Dayspring)
Join Sam Wentzell, of Sam’s Woodland Tours, at the MARC this Saturday between 1-2:30pm for a cozy campfire. Sam will be demonstrating starting a fire using the bow drill method, you’ll roast bannock on a stick, and use a Canadian Candle (Swedish Log) for some hot chocolate. Sounds like a delicious way to spend part of your afternoon. A fun part of what’s happening on the South Shore.
Jan 30 – Snowshoeing/Hiking at Bar M Ranch (New Ross)
Looking for a snowshoe or hike activity this weekend? Bar M Ranch is hosting a winter hike and depending on the amount of snow left, it will either be a hike or snowshoe event. They have marked 1 or 3 km trails, starting off at their outdoor building. You will find a campfire and heater under The Corral building as a warming station. The Three Churches Foundation presents Souper Sundays! Enjoy Takeaway Homestyle Freezer Friendly Soups in Convenient 1-Litre size for just $12. Soups will be Jan 31 Corn Chowder, Feb 28 Beef Barley Soup and Mar 21 Fish Chowder. All pick up at Trinity United Church between 10am-1pm. All soups safely made in the kitchens of Mahone Bay’s Three Churches. Covid protocols in place. All proceeds go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the churches.
