This weekend, the South Shore is bringing you everything from bagpipes to concrete creations, trivia to cribbage, wine pairing to cheese making. Jan 17 – South Shore Pipe and Drum Burns Trivia and Ceilidh (Mahone Bay)
The Barn in Mahone Bay invites you out for the South Shore Pipes and Drum Burns Trivia and Ceilidh this Friday. C’mon out for a fun time you’ll be tapping your toes and they will serving up some hot bevies to keep you energized as you enjoy the show. And there’s no cover for this show.
Jan 17 – Cameron & Stacey Acoustic Friday (Liverpool)
Lane’s Privateer Inn welcomes you to Acoustic Friday. Join Cameron and Stacey at 7:30pm for a laid back evening of acoustic guitar and song. No cover.
Jan 17 – Liverpool Legion Dance (Liverpool)
Come out to the Legion Dance for an evening of all your favourite classic country and 50s rock and roll music this Friday in Liverpool. Dance the night away, or just sit and enjoy the company of old friends and new friends. Always a great evening out with Dave Burbine & Traditional Country.
Jan 17 – Pat Wardell live at King Street Beer Co. (Bridgewater)
Lunenburg’s Pat Wardell is making his debut at King Street Beer Co. this Friday. Playing anything and everything including country, blues, rock, reggae and sometimes he will even do an original. Music starts at 8pm and as always No Cover.

Jan 18 – YMCA Open House (Bridgewater)
The Lunenburg County YMCA invites you to their Open House this Saturday from 8am-6pm. Try the Y facility and programs for free. Government ID required to access facility. Drop by for a tour, enjoy a cup of coffee and learn about the equipment and services that are available for members. There are some classes you can try too, see full FaceBook event for details.
Jan 18 – Snowflake Frenzy (Chester)
The Chester Distract Home & School is hosting the Snowflake Frenzy this weekend. Join them for Mini Golf, Penny Auction, Magic show, bake sale and more! All proceeds from the event go to the CDS Home and School for resources and event funding.
Jan 18 – Community Breakfast (Breakfast)
Start your weekend off right with a delicious Community Breakfast at Blandford Community Centre. The Board will be serving Scrambled Eggs, Hash Browns, Bacon, Sausage, Baked Beans, Toast, Juice, and Tea/Coffee. Adults $7, Youth 5-12 $3.50 and Under 5 Free. A 50/50 draw will also take place.
Jan 18 – Stickfest (Barrington)
Here is a great way to spend an afternoon, Stickfest at the Barrington Curling Club. This stick curling funspiel runs from 1pm-6pm and is open to all! Stick curling rules. Prizes for top three teams. No experience necessary! Equipment provided! We will draw numbers to make up two person teams. Pizza supper included. Curling and Supper $20. Sign up at the club or contact the club by phone, email or Facebook message to sign up.
Jan 18 – Goal Achieving Workshop (Hubbards)
Edgy Business at Anchorage House in Hubbards invites you to their Goal Achieving Workshop this Saturday from 6pm-8pm. Most goal setting exercises only focus on the setting of goals. This interactive workshop is about achieving them. This event is pay what you can donation with proceeds going to their local food bank.
Jan 18 – South of France Wine Pairing (Liverpool)
Lane’s Privateer Inn invites you to vicariously escape to the South of France with an evening of wine pairing. You’ll taste 6 distinctive wines and pair them with charcuterie and other yummy canapés. It will be a casual, fun and informative evening of wine and food. Space is limited. Reservations are required, Tickets are $45 payment required when you book.
Jan 18 – Duo Concertante (Mahone Bay)
Musique Royale invites you into the intimate setting of Cecilia’s Retreat to hear four of J.S. Bach’s Sonatas for violin and piano interpreted by the magnetic Duo Concertante. Known for the passion and brilliance of their performances, critics have praised Nancy Dahn and Timothy Steeves’ “artistry, poetry, and impeccable technique” (La Scena Musicale). Admission is $35, due to limited seating at house concert, please reserve in advance by email.
Jan 18 – Trivia Night (Barrington)
Sharpen your pencils and get those useless pieces of information you have saved out for Trivia Night at the Barrington Curling Club. $5.00 per person. Come alone, with a partner or as a team. Fun and hilarious trivia questions, 25 cent rapid rounds and prizes. Table snacks provided and the bar will be open.
Jan 18 – Trevor Pike live at the Saltbox (Mahone Bay)
Saltbox Brewery welcomes back Trevor Pike this Saturday. Trevor has been performing music live for over 25 years with a repertoire that includes a long list of new and old favourites, with many of his original songs in the mix as well. Music starts at 7pm, and as always no cover.
Jan 18 – 3AM live at Chester Legion (Chester)
3AM will be keeping you on the dance floor this Saturday at the Chester Legion. Music starts at 9pm, $5 Member $8 Non Member. Members and guests welcome to the 19+ event.
Jan 18-19 Winter Workshop Two with Concrete Creations (Liverpool)
Every January concrete sculptor, Ivan Higgins hosts a series of Winter Workshops at his greenhouse studio near Liverpool and this weekend is Workshop Two. Anyone at any skill level can attend, and at the end of each session, each participant will walk away with his or her completed piece of concrete art. Jan 19 – Introduction to Cheese Making (Mahone Bay)
Hosted by Curd Girl and Sweetwood Farm, the Introduction to Cheese Making is their most popular workshop. This class is a full day of learning the basics (and more) to making cheese at home. You’ll make a selection of fresh cheeses which you will each take home, some to finish in your own special way. We will also share in a semi-formal cheese tasting session – over a casual potluck lunch. The class is $110 +HST ($126.50). Registration requires payment in full. Jan 19 – Cinema Sunday at Chester Playhouse (Chester)
Chester Playhouse Theatre is back with another Cinema Sunday. The family feature is Abominable playing at 1:30pm. The regular feature this week is The Lighthouse. Filmed right here on the South Shore, The Lighthouse was just nominated for an Academy Award for Cinematography! Tickets $10 Adult, $8 Youth and area available at the door.
Jan 19 – Sound of the 60’s Benefit Concert (Liverpool)
Come out and support the Astor Theatre at the Sound of the 60’s Benefit Concert. Join The Studio Bravo Students and other musical guests for an evening of golden oldies from the 60’s. This is a reserved seating event. Tickets are $15, doors open at 6:30pm, show starts at 7pm.
Jan 19 – Crib Tournament (Chester)
The Chester Legion is holding a Crib Tournament this Sunday. Members and Guests are welcome. $20 per team entry fee, play starts at 1pm.
South Shore Public Libraries
Our South Shore Public Library system offers a wonderful opportunity to get out and about with your family during the quiet winter months. With four locations and a fantastic Bookmobile Schedule you can go on the hunt for new authors, borrow movies on your “must see list” list, e-books, music and coming soon board games to share and enjoy with friends and family.

There are also a number of programs available such as book clubs, story time, lego clubs and more.
