Have you been out enjoying some of the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl events yet? If not, don’t worry there are lots more planned for this weekend. As well as new lobster centric events, the South Shore is offering up unique experiences to enjoy. Everything from metal stamping workshops to karaoke nights, fundraising concerts to poetry readings and even some early Valentine’s events. Let’s take a look and see what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

Feb 7 – Taps & Traps (Chester)
Crawl to Tanner & Co in Chester for our take on a lobsterrific happy hour Taps & Traps. Enjoy 5 Tanner & Co beers paired with lobster appetizers created by Chef Nathan Guggenheimer of Oak Island Resort. Mingle with friends, the chef and brewmaster to chat about where they draw inspiration. There are two “seatings” 3-6pm and 7-10pm. Tickets are $60, space is limited so book your spot soon.
Feb 7 – 2nd Annual Lobster Music Jam (Brooklyn)
As part of the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl, Brooklyn Marina invites you to the 2nd Annual Lobster Music Jam, this Friday from 6:30pm-9-30pm. Head to the Brooklyn Community Hall for an evening of sing-along fun and social. Bring an instrument and join in, take part in the 50/50 draw, contributions to the lunch table appreciated. Admission is $2, all proceeds going to the Brooklyn Marina. A great part of what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.
Feb 7 – Irish Sessions (Liverpool)
Lane’s Privateer Inn is hosting another Irish Sessions this Friday starting at 7pm. Join them for an evening of toe tapping traditional Irish music performed in the “session” format round the table. Feb 7 – Riding the Swells – Art Show and Sale (Liverpool)
The Astor Theatre is hosting Riding the Swells Art Show & Sale, a wonderful addition to the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl. Discover the work of numerous artists as they celebrate the the Cape Island fishing boat. The show runs from February 5 – 28, open Tuesday-Fridays 11am-4pm.
Feb 7 – “Harriet” at Chester Theatre Playhouse (Chester)
Chester Theatre Playhouse present “Harriet” this Friday at 7:30pm. Starring Oscar Nominated Best Actress Cynthia Erivo, follow the extraordinary tale of Harriet Tubman’s escape from slavery and transformation into one of America’s greatest heroes, whose courage, ingenuity, and tenacity freed hundreds of slaves and changed the course of history. Tickets $10 and available at the door.
Feb 7 – Karaoke Night (Chester)
The Chester Legion welcomes you to Karaoke Night this Friday from 8-11:30pm. Grab your friends, pick your go to songs and take the stage. This is a 19+ event, members and guests welcome, no cover.
Feb 7 – “Little Women” at the Astor Theatre (Liverpool)
The Astor Theatre presents the 2019 theatrical release of Little Women, this weekend. Follow the timeless story of the March Sisters in this beautiful production by director Greta Gerwig. Tickets available at the door, $8 for Matinees and $10 for Evenings.
Feb 7 – JP Duo live at FirkinStein Brewing (Bridgewater)
FirkinStein Brewing Co. welcomes JP Duo! back to the stage. The music starts at 8pm with Pat and Jordan a “wicked duo”. Enjoy great music and good brews. A nice way to start the weekend.
Feb 7 – Liverpool Legion Dance
David Burbine and Traditional Country invite you to Liverpool Legion this Friday for a Dance.. An evening of all your favourite classic country and 50s rock and roll music. Dance the night away, or just sit and enjoy the company of old friends and new friends. Always a great evening out. We look forward to seeing you all there.

Feb 8 – Firefighters Breakfast (Dayspring)
Breakfast is ready! Dayspring & District Fire Department invite you to enjoy a Firefighters Breakfast this Saturday from 7:30-11am. They will have Bacon, Eggs, Homemade Beans, Hashbrowns, Toast and Pancakes! Adults eat for $9.00, Ages 6 to 12 eat for $5.00 and Children under 5 and under eat for FREE!
Feb 8 – Snowshoe (maybe?) at Graves Island (Chester)
Curvy Girls Hiking and Hike Nova Scotia are hosting a Snowshoe/Hike at Graves Island this Saturday. Meet at the Graves Island Provincial Park parking lot and set out to explore approximately 3kms of trail with gorgeous (but windy!) ocean views. If there is enough snow, this will be a snowshoeing event. No experience required, we will take time to get comfortable with our snowshoes before we explore together. Snowshoes are available to borrow, just send us an email to reserve a pair!
Feb 8 – Writing for Children Workshop (Bridgewater)
Writers’ Federation of Nova Scotia is holding a Writing for Children Workshop this Saturday from 10am – 5pm. This workshop will be led by Sylvia Gunnery and will take place at the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre in Bridgewater. A wonderful opportunity to get your daydreams off the back burner, fill up those blank pages, and explore writing for children and youth. Immerse yourself in your own writing through a variety of focused activities. Space is limited, tickets are available via WFNS website.
Feb 8 – Salt Water Mitten Workshop (Mahone Bay)
Have a Yarn is hosting a class on knitting the popular Salt Water Mittens. We will complete a condensed mitten, including all the components of a full size mitten but much smaller. You’ll practise each technique that you need to know to create the full size mittens. Skills: must be familiar with knitting small items in the round and the basic structure of a mitten. Feb 8 – SOUPermarket Cafe (Lunenburg)
St John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg invites you to their SOUPermarket Cafe this Saturday from 11:30am-1:30pm. Share the warmth and friendship with fabulous hearty, homemade soups and decadent desserts in a cheerful cafe setting. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students. Take-out available.
Feb 8 – Curl for Cancer (Liverpool)
Canadian Cancer Society – Atlantic is hosting a Curl for Cancer Bonspiel this Saturday from 12pm-8pm at the Liverpool Curling Club. This is a fun-filled event where teams of four hit the ice, have fun, and raise funds to help us prove that together, we are bigger than cancer. To sign up or donate, please click here. Feb 8 – Poetry reading with Cory Lavender (Bridgewater)
DesBrisay Museum invites you to a Poetry Reading with Cory Lavendar this Saturday at 2pm. Cory will do a poetry reading, followed by conversation and questions. His work has a folksy feel and draws from his life experiences on the South Shore, such as work in the voice of his lobster fishing grandfather. Free, donations appreciated.

Feb 8 – Spirited Crustaceans (Lunenburg)
Join Iron Works Distillery Fridays in February for Lobsters and Libations. Feb 8 – South of France Wine Tasting (Liverpool)
Lane’s Privateer Inn invites you to a South of France Wine Tasting. We all need a little break from winter and what better place to vicariously escape to than the south of France? You will join Sommelier Susan Lane and taste six distinctive wines and pair them with charcuterie and other yummy canapés. It will be a casual, fun and informative evening of wine and food. Feb 8 – Rock for the Park Fundraiser (Lunenburg)
Homegrown Skateboards is sponsoring Rock the Park, a fundraiser for Lunenburg Skate Park. An all ages event at the Lunenburg Legion, come on out for an evening featuring local rock bands, with all proceeds of the event going towards building a new mini-ramp! Admission is $10 pp, doors open at 7:30, music starts at 8pm.
Feb 8 – Coldest Day of the Year (Chester)
The Chester Drama Society is hosting it’s 20th Annual Coldest Day of the Year Benefit this Saturday at the Fo’c’sle Pub in Chester. Always a fun filled event with great live msuic, raffles, silent auctions and more. The fun starts at 3pm and just keeps going. $10 cover with all proceeds going to the Chester Drama Society.
Feb 8 – Creamed Lobster Supper (Port Clyde)
The Clyde Area Community Centre invites you to a Creamed Lobster Supper. A part of the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl, meet with friends and family for a meal of creamed lobster, mash, peas & carrots, coleslaw, coffee/tea and desserts. Dinner is from 4:30-6:00pm, $15 for Adults $8 for Youth 12-5, Under 5 are free. Take Out is available.
Feb 8 – South Shore Mustangs Home Playoff Game #1 (Bridgewater)
Join the crowds on Saturday night and cheer on Regular Season NSMMHL Champion UPS Store South Shore Mustangs as begin their playoff season on home ice at the LCLC. The Mustangs facing the Sydney Rush, the puck drops at 7:30pm. Admission: Adults: $7 Seniors & Students: $5 Under 12: FREE.
Feb 8 – Andrew Frelick live at King Street Beer Co. (Bridgewater)
Andrew Frelick will be performing for King Street Beer Company guests from 8pm-10pm this Saturday night. Stop by as Andrew puts on a rare solo acoustic show, singing popular cover songs as well as music from his 3 current EP’s. As always, no cover.

Feb 9 – For the Love of Lobster 2020 (Chester Basin)
Everyone is invited for an afternoon of fun, food and so much more. Join the Tourism Chester and Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre as they celebrate FOR THE LOVE OF LOBSTER. Doors open at 12 Noon, there will be a Market featuring communities, creators, crafters, a Kids Fun Zone and the 2nd Annual Lobster Chowder “Chowdown Showdown”. Admission to the event is FREE! and this year will take place at Forest Heights Community School in Chester Basin.
Feb 9 – Create Your Own Vision Board + Flow Yoga (Bridgewater)
Free to Be Yoga with Christy is hosting a Create Your Own Vision Board + Flow Yoga Workshop, this Sunday from 1-3pm. Create a vision of how you want your life to look. Feb 9 – Hank Snow Museum Fundraiser (Liverpool)
Hank Snow Home Town Museum invites you to “Hello Love” a fundraiser event. Enjoy an afternoon of great local music at the Liverpool Legion from 1-4pm. Admissions is $7, or $5 with a donation of a non-perishable item for the Queens County Food Bank.
Feb 9 – Learn to Knit a “Bait Bag” (Liverpool)
Well if you are truly looking for something a little different to do this weekend, why not Learn to Knit a Bait Bag? The Queens County Museum and Instructor Peter Leslie will teach you how to knit a bait bag, that can be used as a reusable shopping bag, how neat is that? Taking place this Sunday from 1-4pm, registration fee is $25 pp (Twine, Shuttles and Refreshments are included). Pre-registration is required by calling the Museum at 902-354-4058. Feb 9 – Cinema Sunday at Chester Playhouse Theatre (Chester)
This Sunday the Chester Playhouse Theatre features “A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood” at 1:30pm and “Annie Hall” at 4pm as Cinema Sundays continues. Tickets are $10 for Adults $8 for Youth, per person/film and are available at the door.
Feb 9 – Metal Stamping and Decorating Workshop (Shelburne)
The Art COOP Gallery presents a workshop on Metal Stamping and Decorating this Sunday from 2-4pm. This is a 2 hour class exploring the qualities of metal through stamping and machine engraving. Experience with metalwork is not necessary, although basic tool knowledge would be helpful. Class cost is $50.00 which includes a material kit and tool use.
Feb 9 – Sunday Afternoon ART DOC Double Feature (Lunenburg)
Lunenburg Academy of Music Performance and Lunenburg Foundation for the Arts presents Sunday Afternoon ART DOC Double Feature from 2-4pm. This weeks theme looks the early days of music recording with “Big Bang” docuseries narrated by Robert Redford, followed by a nostalgic episode of TV series Route 66, which features legendary jazz vocalist Ethel Waters. Admission is by donation, refreshments will be served.
