Christmas festivals are in full swing again this weekend. The Mahone Bay Father Christmas Festival, Christmas at the Causeway and Yuletide in Lunenburg continue with activities for everyone. Starting this weekend is the New Ross Christmas Festival, featuring Christmas in the Country at Ross Farm Museum. Dec 6 – Christmas in the Village (Mill Village)
Riverbank General Store is celebrating “Christmas in the Village” this Friday from 11am-7pm. Lot’s of activities for all ages, movies, free chili, fire truck rides, a visit from Santa and more! The Cafe will be serving a special menu, reservations are recommended.
Dec 6 – Impress Exhibit (Lunenburg)
The Lunenburg Art Gallery is pleased to announce “Impress”, the opening of a weekend (only) exhibition of works by members of Mahone Bay Printmakers. Don’t miss this great glimpse of printmakers work this Friday from 4pm-6:30pm.
Dec 6 – Holiday Movie & Cooking Night (Liverpool)
Join your Superstore In-Store Dietitian Hayley for her Holiday Cooking & Movie Night this Friday from 6-830pm for ages 5-11. Kids will make festive snacks to enjoy while watching a fun Holiday Movie. Dec 6 – Memorial Tree Lighting (Lunenburg)
Join the Walden Volunteer Fire Department as they light their Memorial Christmas Tree Lighting. A light can be purchased in memory of a loved one for $5.00. A tag will be made and placed on your light. Once the tree is lit please join us in the fire hall where there will be a seafood chowder, finger foods and refreshments. Dec 6 – Visit From Santa (Shelburne)
To kick off the holiday season the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre is bringing Santa to Birchtown! This event is free, starts at 6:30pm and will feature a performance by the local Hand Bell Choir as well as activities for children. This event is presented in partnership with the Municipality of the District of Shelburne.
Dec 6 – Lights of Love Christmas Carol Service
Gardens of Grace are hosting their second annual Lights of Love service with the generous support of Christ Church Dartmouth. This Christmas service is a gentle way for all who have been deeply touched by the death of a child, at any age or stage of the child’s life and is an opportunity to honour the loved ones no longer with us in a beautiful and non-denominational setting during a season that can be very difficult.

Ingomar Faith Wesleyan would like to invite you to join with them Friday at 7:00pm for their annual Christmas with Friends. Come one come all for a night of song and celebration. Hear special guests, The Sound of Men, Mary Williams, the Hope Wesleyan Choir, and more. Once the singing is over join in for a time of fellowship and christmas goodies.
Dec 6 – Teddy Bear Toss #14- South Shore Lumberjacks (LCLC)
The Mariners are in town to face off against the Lumberjacks, but this match has something special, Teddy Bears! As part of the CKBW South Shore Radio/ Country 107.1 Toy Drive, the Lumberjacks are having “Teddy Bear Toss” night. Bring a Teddy Bear to donate and when the Lumberjacks Score their first goal of the night, toss it onto the ice!! We’ve seen the news reports of over 20,000+ Teddy Bears being collected at other games, let’s see what the South Shore can do! Get your tickets in advance, and don’t forget your teddy bears!
Dec 6 – Karaoke Night at the Firkinstein (Bridgwater)
P&R Karaoke is back for Karaoke Night at the Firkinstein this Friday. Bring your best pals, your favourite sang and sing your heart out! Always a good time, the fun starts at 8pm. What a fun addition to what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

Dec 7 – 8 New Ross Christmas Festival (New Ross)
New Ross celebrates the season with the New Ross Christmas Festival. The weekend of events starts Friday evening with their Tree Lighting at the bandstand and community supper at the New Ross Legion. Saturday take part in the Firefighters Breakfast, Festival Craft & Gift Fair at NRC School and another at the Legion, family activities at the Resource Centre and much more.
The fun continues on Sunday at Ross Farm Museum, Wreath Making at Bar M Ranch, open house at Peasant’s Pantry, live entertainment at Bulwark Cider/Muwin Wineries, Turkey Dinner at the Forties Community Centre, Ross Farm Craft & Gift Market, art shows and so much more. Dec 7 – Christmas in the Country (New Ross)
As part of the New Ross Christmas Festival the folk at Ross Farm Museum has put together a great program for you to enjoy. Step back in time to experience Christmas in the Country. At Rosebank Cottage sample, traditional dishes from the period such as plum pudding, sugar cookies & warm spiced cider. There will be craft activities in the schoolhouse and farm workshop. Weather permitting there will be horse-drawn rides. What a wonderful way to spend the day.
Dec 7 – Annual Reindeer Dash (Barrington)
Barrington Municipal Recreation Department invites you to take part of their Annual Reindeer Dash! This 2km/5km fun run is a great way to start your day, registration starts at 8:30am with a 9am start time. Meet at the Sherose Island Recreation Centre. Ages 13 and up $10, Ages 5 – 12 $5 and under 5 are Free.
Dec 7 – Lunenburg Christmas Craft Festival (Lunenburg)
Back again this year Lunenburg Food & Craft Fair is hosting the Lunenburg Christmas Craft Festival. Three venues, two days, one admission. You are bound to find the perfect, local, gift for everyone on your list.
Dec 7 – Seaweed Tours “Hops on- Hops Off” Brewery Shuttle (Lunenburg, Mahone Bay & Bridgewater)
Hop on Seaweed Tours “Hops on Hops Off” brewery run! Seaweed Tours will be shuttling folks, for an 1.5 hour stay in each community throughout the afternoon. Leaving & arriving from Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and Bridgwater, each has a designated time where you can join the shuttle from any of the three locations! Visit a local brewery, head to the shops, or go for a stroll. There is room for 8 people from each community. Tours must be pre booked. The tour will run Dec. 7th, 14th, 21st for $35.00 plus tax. Dec 7 – Musique Royale presents a Cookie Concert (Lunenburg)
Musique Royale presents two Concerts with Maxim & Gervais Cormier, a Cape Breton Guitar Duo performing a Celtic, Jazz and Folk extravaganza with Celtic tunes, classical compositions, and original material on guitar! The first concert is Saturday at 11am a Mahone Bay Cecilia’s Retreat House concert: $35, admission by reservation at barbara.butler@ns.sympatico.ca. The second concert is at 2 pm at the Lunenburg School of the Arts Cookie Concert: $5 at the door (4 and under free).
Dec 7 – 3rd Bridgewater Scouts Craft Show and Chili Lunch
Come out and have some fun as you support 3rd Bridgewater Scouts and local crafters at their Craft Show and Chili Lunch. You will find everything from Candles, Home Made Christmas Decorations, Wood Products, Carvings, Paintings, Folk Art, Jams, Mincemeat, and more. Canteen serving a Chili Lunch in addition to other items.
Dec 7 – Christmas on the Causeway (Barrington)
Christmas on the Causeway continues with numerous events happening on the South Shore this weekend. Saturday you can decorate your own Gingerbread House (registration required) at the Library, visit the ERMES Christmas Craft Market or take part in the Reindeer Dash and then head to Christmas in the Ex from 1pm-4pm. Head to Milton Memorial Hall for the annual Milton Community Christmas Supper. Sit with friends and neighbours over Turkey Dinner with all the fixings, Coffee Tea Juice and dessert. Dec 7 – 2019 Reindeer Fun Run (Mahone Bay)
The Mahone Bay Father Christmas Festival carries on this weekend. Along with the “Homes for the Holiday” house tour and Christmas Fantasy, check out the Father Christmas Craft Fair at St. James Anglican Church from 9am-2pm, then put on your best festive outfit for the Reindeer Fun Run! The race is 3km and starts at the government wharf. The route is an out and back along Main St., this years run is in support of Autism Nova Scotia and the C Joseph Feeney Bell Tower and Library!
Dec 7 – Lighting of the Vessels (Lunenburg)
Yuletide in Lunenburg continues this weekend, the highlight of which is the Annual Lighting of the Vessels. Presented by the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, head to the water where there will be events and activities for the whole family on our wharf and inside the museum including; Local food vendors, Kiddie Theodore Dory Train Ride, Marshmallow Roast, Christmas Carol Sing A Long, Face painting, Stuff the Trailer: Non-perishable food items for the Local Food bank, 20% off on almost everything in the Salt Store Gift Shop, Fireworks and much much more!
Dec 7 – DesBrisay Museum Christmas Open House (Bridgewater)
The DesBrisay Museum invites you to join them for a festive afternoon at their Christmas Open House, this Saturday at 2pm. Enjoy music by the South Shore Ukulele Players, festive refreshments, Christmas trivia, holiday exhibit, instant holiday photos, and more. A donation for the local food bank is appreciated.
Dec 7 – Kid’s Paint Party (Bridgewater)
The Party’s Here will be hosting a Snowman Paint Party. Artist Jeanie will guide you step by step to complete your one of a kind masterpiece. In typical “Party’s Here” style there will be yummy Christmas snacks and refreshments included in the cost. Tickets are $22 per person. As always tickets must be pre-paid and are non-refundable. Dec 7 – Port Mouton’s 2nd Annual Trap Tree (Port Mouton)
Come join the Port Mouton community as they light up their 2nd Annual Trap Tree. Santa will be here so please bring your little ones to sit for a photo and a treat bag. There will be hot chocolate, and baked goods for everyone as we wait around for the lighting.
Dec 7 – Privateer Christmas Bonanza and Teddy Bear Toss
This is your last chance to see the Privateers at home this year. To make it extra special bring a new teddy bear with you and take part in the Teddy Bear Toss for charity! Alternatively there will be a box for other toys that aren’t safe to throw and rumour has it that Santa will be in the house !

What’s happening this weekend on the South Shore? Well Torpedo Rays Scuba Adventures invites one and all to the most jolly dive of the year, the Christmas Tree Dive 2019. Bring your bio-degradable ornaments and help decorate their tree… underwater. Get your photo taken with Scuba Santa by the tree then enjoy a yule-time BBQ following the dive as always. Heated changing area and hot cocoa provided! Prizes awarded for best ornament, most holiday spirit and among others. Cost: $5 club members and $10 non-members.
Dec 7 – Great Haul-a-Day Food Drive (Bridgewater)
South Shore Paramedics, the Bridgewater Police Service, and the Lunenburg County RCMP are once again gearing up for the 11th annual Great Haul-A-Day Food Drive. This year’s event will take place on Saturday between 1 to 4:30 p.m. at Bridgewater Atlantic Superstore. As always, all proceeds will go to the Bridgewater Inter-Church Food Bank. Dec 7 – George Canyon & Aaron Pritchett: 12 Days of Christmas (Liverpool)
Two Canadian country music superstars come together to celebrate the holidays with an acoustic collaboration for their 12 Days of Christmas East Coast Tour 2019. The New Germany Christmas Festival Sponsored by the Municipality of the District of Lunenburg in Partnership with New Germany Area Promotion Society and New Germany Elementary Home and School Association. Bring the kids to enjoy mini trees, Lions Club Train, Face Painting and more. The little ones can also go shopping a the Whimsical Christmas Store – The Whimsical Store is sponsored by Mt Calvary Lutheran Church Operation Christmas Child team. All items $1 and will be held in the gym.
Dec 8 – South Shore Chorale Concert (Bridgewater & Petite Riviere)
South Shore Chorale will be performing Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria in their upcoming concert Sing! Christmas. along with other seasonal favourites. The South Shore Chorale are performing twice this weekend; Saturday at 2:30 pm at St Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater and Sunday at 2:30 pm at Wesley United Church, Petite Riviere. Dec 8 – Chester Brass Band Christmas Gala (Oak Island Resort)
The Chester Brass Band invites you to their Christmas Gala Fundraiser this Sunday at Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre. Dec 8 – Beary Merry Christmas featuring The Stadacona Band (Liverpool)
An annual holiday favourite returns to The Astor Theatre, Beary Merry Christmas! The Salvation Army presents The Stadacona Band for an evening of festive music and entertainment. Bring a stuffed bear or a toy to donate to the toy drive. Tickets are $15 and are available through the theatre box office or online.
Dec 8 – Christmas Tree Lighting (Liverpool)
Part of what’s happening on the South Shore is the Greenfield and District Volunteer Fire Department Christmas Tree Lighting. Stop in for 6pm and enjoy hot dogs, cookies and cocoa and wait for Santa to arrive on a fire truck! Fun for the whole family.
