Well here we are, the first week of December. The countdown to the holidays has officially begun, and I think we are ready for some cheer, some twinkle lights and some holiday spirit! The South Shore has something for everyone this weekend to help start the season. Let’s have a look at what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend!

What’s happening on Friday December 4th, 2020
Dec 4 – Clickity-Clack Knitting Group (Bridgewater)
Calling all knitters and crocheters, experienced or learning. You are invited to Clickty-Clack Knitting Group this Friday from 10am-12pm at the DesBrisay Museum. Instruction for beginners and socialization for the more experienced knitters. Some supplies are available and lots of patterns for beginners. Join them for a relaxing morning of knitting/crocheting and chatting.
Dec 4 – Hope for Hospice Facebook Auction (Online)
The South Shore Hospice Palliative Care Society is hosting Hope for Hospice, a Facebook Auction which closes this Sunday, December 6th. As their annual fundraising gala was cancelled due to COVID, they are holding an online auction of some of the items donated by their amazing supporters. With such offerings as rounds of golf at White Point & Chester, live lobster, art pieces and numerous gift certificates to local restaurants, shops and spas, what a wonderful way to do some holiday shopping and support an incredible organization.
Dec 4 – Memorial Tree Lighting at Walden Fire Hall (Mahone Bay)
The annual Memorial Tree Lighting at Walden Fire Hall is happening this Friday. Taking place both in person and via Facebook live, join them at 7pm for the lighting and reading. Coffee, Tea, hot chocolate will be handed out along with pre wrapped cookies. The event will be outside so dress accordingly, face masks and social distancing is required. Memorial tags can be purchased ahead of time (recommended) or on site. We are encouraging everyone to please donate $5 per tag in advance by contacting Mona at (902) 523-1029 or via e-transfer to walden.firedepartment@gmail.comin, the note put who each tag is for and what you want read at the time of the lighting
Dec 4 – Irish Sessions at Lane’s Privateer Inn (Liverpool)
This Friday! Join Lane’s Privateer Inn for a (social distanced) evening of toe-tapping tunes with the Irish Pub Sessions musicians. No cover charge! Show starts at 7:30pm Reservations highly recommended~ Call 1 902 354-3456 to book your table.
Dec 4 – Outdoor Tree Lighting at The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre (Shelburne)
The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre is excited to host fun and safe holiday events at the centre in partnership with the Municipality of the District of Shelburne! The first event will be an outdoor tree lighting this Friday at 6:30pm. Hot chocolate will be served and treat bags for the children. For the adults, it will be a great opportunity to visit the gift shop for their special Christmas sale! Please dress warmly as the tree lighting will be outside.To ensure the safety of everyone, please wear a mask and social distance while outside. Masks remain mandatory inside the centre. Dec 4 – South Shore Lumberjacks vs. Valley Wildcats (Bridgewater)
Cheer on the South Shore Lumberjacks this Friday. Puck drops at 7pm with Lumberjacks taking on the Valley Wildcats. Tickets are available online. Please full list of Fan Protocols before getting to the rink.
Dec 4 – Ed & Lorn live at FirkenStein Brewing (Bridgewater)
FirkenStein Brewing is pleased to welcome Ed & Lorn to the “stage” this Friday. Two great solo acts coming together to make a fantastic duo! Music starts at 8pm, COVID-19 protocols in place.

Dec 5 – One of a Kind Craft Show (Woods Harbour)
Do a little local shopping this Saturday at the One of a Kind Christmas Craft Show at the Woods Harbour Community Centre. A number of local makers and vendors, seasonal music, a visit from Santa. lobster chowder and more. Stop in between 10am-2pm, admissions is $2 per person, COVID protocols in effect.
Dec 5 – 9th Annual Holiday Open House at Cocoa Organic Spa (Mahone Bay)
Cocoa Organic Spa’s Annual Holiday Open House is one of their favourite days of the year, and they are excited to be be able to continue it with a 2020 modified version. This year will be a ticketed event. Pre-sold will be given a specific arrival time to ensure social distancing. Your ticket includes a free mini service as well as your own personal shopper. Tickets are $25 each, please call (902) 531-2626, and the $25 is redeemable in retail products on the day of the event.
Dec 5 – Gingerbread & Tiny Tree Kits to Go (Mahone Bay)
The Mahone Bay Museum is offering their Gingerbread and Tiny Tree crafts as Take Home Kits this year. Recommended for ages 3-10, kits are available for pick up by suggested donation of $5 each (in cash please). Drive your vehicle up next to the back of the Mahone Bay Centre (45 School Street) near the Abriel Room door between Noon & 3pm on Saturday Dec. 5. Please stay in your vehicle and roll down your window when our volunteer is ready. Please wear a mask.
Dec 5 – Lockeport’s Annual Christmas Craft Fair (Lockeport)
The Lockeport July 1st Committee is donning Santa hats to host Lockeport’s Annual Christmas Craft Fair. Make your way to the Lockeport Fire Hall and do a little Christmas shopping, while supporting your local makers. bakers and vendors. Free admission, the event runs form 10am – 2pm. Masks are required and socially distancing in effect.
Dec 5 – Christmas in Liverpool Holiday Shopping Event (Liverpool)
Looking to do a little holiday shopping in Liverpool? This is the perfect weekend, 20+ businesses are part of the annual Christmas in Liverpool – Holiday Shopping Event. Look for the red flags of participating shops with draws and in-store specials. There will also be pop-up stores in town, you’ll find something for everyone, so bring the whole family and join in the fun.
Dec 5 – Introduction to Longsword (LaHave)
Medieval Swordplay Canada is hosting a Italian Medieaval Longsword Training workshop this weekend, 3-4:30 pm. This class is open to beginners, must be 18+Registration in advance holds your spot and is nonrefundable. Spaces limited. Training Swords provided. Dec 5 – Irish Stick Fighting (LaHave)

Bar M Ranch is hosting another Christmas Tree U-Pick this weekend, with two different time slots to choose from. Time slots on Dec 5/6 will be morning (10am-noon) or afternoon (1-4pm). Dec 6 – Bridgewater Holiday Markets (Bridgewater)
Join Bridgewater Farmers’ Market on the five Sundays before Christmas for their modified Holiday Markets. 25+ vendors (some of your regular farmers’ market vendors and other local makers) will be set up inside and outside the Bridgewater Arena to bring you more local choices for your holiday shopping and entertaining
Dec 6 – Public Skating at the LCLC (Bridgewater)
Grab your bubble members, pack up your skates and head to the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre and hit the ice. Public skates are happening Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Check their website for all COIVD-19 protocols.
South Shore Holiday Markets
As our wonderful farm markets have closed for the season, we can still support local by visiting holiday markets and craft shows. There are still a few markets happening, check out our South Shore Holiday Market & Festival Guide and see if there is one happening near you.
