What's Happening on the South Shore this Weekend (Dec 20-22 & Dec 27-28, 2019)

As we head into the last few weeks of 2019, with the anticipation of time spent with friends and family over the holidays, we want to take a moment and say thanks for hanging out with us every weekend. It is so much fun sharing all the incredible things happening on the South Shore on the weekends. We cannot wait to see what the new year has planned for us, we are sure it is going to be amazing. What’s Happening on Friday December 20th

Dec 20 – Chowder Friday at Saltbox Brewery (Mahone Bay)

Saltbox Brewery and Rebecca’s Restaurant have teamed up once again for Chowder Fridays. Head down to the Saltbox and enjoy Chef Misty’s Chowder from 4:30pm-8pm, pair with a delicious brew and enjoy this weeks musical guest Trevor Pike .

Dec 20 – Trevor Pike live at the Saltbox (Mahone Bay)

Head down to the Saltbox for some live music wth Trevor Pike. Sure to get your toes tapping, the music starts at 7pm, and as always no cover!

Dec 20 – “The Lightbouse” at the Astor (Liverpool)

The Astor Theatre is please to present “The Lighthouse” this Friday at 7pm. Filmed on location on the South Shore, this hypnotic tale is sure to keep you on the edge of your seats. Tickets are $10 for evenings and $8 for matinees and are available at the door. Please note this movie is for mature audiences.

Dec 20 – The Gamechangers at the Firkenstein (Bridgewater)

It’s the Week before Christmas… and things will be a-stirrin’ at FirkinStein Brewing with the Groove-Blues music of GameChangers! Music starts at 8pm.

Dec 20 – Nicola Miller Jazz Quartet at King Street Beer Co. (Bridgewater)

Nicola Miller Quartet will be at King Street Beer Co. Friday Night from 8-10pm! Join them for an amazing night of jazz! As always No Cover.

Dec 20 – The UpBeats at the New Ross Legion (New Ross)

Head on out to New Ross Legion Pub for a great night of music this Friday with The UpBeats. A fun evening with drinks, dancing and general shenanigans. Music starts at 8:30pm

Dec 20 – Liverpool Legion Christmas Party (Liverpool)

Come out to the Liverpool Legion for an evening of all your favourite classic country and 50s rock and roll music with David Burbine & Traditional Counrty. Dance the night away, or just sit and enjoy the company of old friends and new friends. What a wonderful to start the holidays!

What’s Happening Saturday December 21st

Dec 21 – Annual Pancake Breakfast with Santa (Western Shore)

The Western Shore & District Fire Department invite you and the kids to come have Breakfast with Santa. Enjoy a delicious pancake breakfast and let the kids get in one last visit with the Big Guy before Christmas! Starts at 8am.

Dec 21 – Privateers Christmas Market

This is the last weekend to attend the Privateers Christmas Market. Do some last minute shopping and support local makers, bakers and businesses. The market runs from 9am-1pm at the Liverpool Legion.

Dec 21 – Winter Solstice Spiral and Song (Mahone Bay)

Seven Feathers Healing Arts with Amanda Ring invites you to join her for an evening of Winter Solstice Spiral and Song. Come and walk her outdoor meditation spiral, light a candle at the spiral altar and join in song as a way to embrace the shift into winter and the coming of more light into our magical days ahead in 2020. No singing experience is necessary! Registration is required as space is limited, $20 per person, see full Facebook event for all the details.

Dec 21 – Ugly Sweater Christmas Karaoke (Chester)

Head to the Chester Legion for some festive fun! Take part in their annual Ugly Christmas Sweater Karaoke. Wear your “best” attire and get in the spirit and do some Christmas tunes. The fun starts at 9pm, this is a 19+ event, members and guests welcome, No Cover!

Dec 21 – Caribou Run live at the Grand Banker (Lunenburg)

The Grand Banker welcomes Caribou Run to the stage this Saturday at 9pm. Caribou Run hails from the South Shore of Nova Scotia, and their songs are ones that fill rooms, songs that grow to be anthems, and songs that break and mend hearts.

Dec 21 – Shelburne Lion’s Christmas Dance (Shelburne)

The Shelburne Lions Club invites you to their Christmas Dance. Enjoy an evening of all your favourites, dance the night away, or just sit and enjoy the company of friends and family.

Dec 21 – Chester Basin Legion Christmas Dance

The Chester Basin Legion is holding it’s Annual Christmas Dance this Saturday from 9pm-1am. A fun filled night with great music and dancing with The Usual Suspects. Tickets are $15 in advance, $20 at the door.

What’s Happening Sunday December 22, 2019

Dec 22 – Christmas Cookies and Egg Nog Ride (Mahone Bay)

Mother Nature caused this event to be postponed last week…. Join Sweet Ride Cycling for their annual Christmas Cookies & Eggnog Ride on this Sunday at 9am. Explore the local single track trails and rail trail and then return to the shop at 11am for cookies and eggnog, hot chocolate. As a special bonus, those attending will receive a special shopping discounts too. This ride will accommodate beginners as well as experienced riders with two different group options. Dec 22 – Bridgewater Christmas Market at the LCLC (Bridgewater)

This Sunday is the last Bridgewater Christmas Market at the LCLC. Perfect for last minute gifts and goodies before the big day. The market will be open from 10am – 3pm.

Dec 22 – Candlelight Church Service and Marshmallow Roast (Shelburne)

Join the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre for an old fashion Candlelight Christmas and marshmallow roast. The service takes place at St. Paul’s Church. Please note the church has no heat, so dress warmly! This event is presented in partnership with the Municipality of the District of Shelburne. The marshmallow roast is made possible thanks to the donation of Shelburne Sobeys.

What’s Happening the South Shore on the weekend of Dec 27- 29, 2019

Friday Dec 27 – Kirtan on the South Shore (Mahone Bay)

Kirtan, or yogic chanting, is a call-and-response form of chanting that is a type of yoga in itself. It has many of the mind-calming benefits of a yoga class or sitting meditation. No chanting experience necessary! Just an open, curious heart. The South Shore Kirtan is led by local yoga teacher, Tracy Murdoch, and accompanied by Jill Higgins, a local physiotherapist. The cost is $15 suggested donation. Registration is requested, either by saying you are coming in the Facebook event or by emailing Tracy

Friday Dec 27 – “Jumanji:Next Level” at the Astor Theatre

The Astor Theatre presents “Jumanji:Level Up” the much anticipated sequel to the hit “Jumanji:Into the Jungle”, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jack Black. The whole gang is back, with a few surprise guests ready to set on on their next adventure! Tickets are $10 for evening shows and $8 for matinees, and are available at the door.

Saturday Dec 28 – Fun Score-O & Winter Social (Mahone Bay)

Calling all Orienteers, the South Shore Orienteers invite you to take part in a Fun Score-O and Winter Social. A super fun Score-O with a twist — there are no controls or punches, instead you have to hunt for clues on everyday objects. Mass start at 11 from the Mahone Bay Centre. Join us after the event at the Mug and Anchor Pub in Mahone Bay for refreshments and O-trivia. Tickets aren’t needed but pre-register is requested to help with map numbers etc.

Saturday Dec 28 – The Colprits live at the Firkenstien (Bridgewater)

Head to the FirkenStein and celebrate the last Saturday of 2019 with the Colprits! In duo for this time around with Scott and Rocky, always a good time. Great music, good beer, music starts at 8pm.

Saturday Dec 28 – Old Man Young ath King Street Beer. (Bridgewater)

Join the entertaining duo Old Man Young at King Street Beer this Saturday from 8pm-10pm. You will be sure to recognize and be able to sing along with all your favourites. As always no cover!

Saturday Dec 28 – Canadian Dory Racing Association Christmas Dance (Lunenburg)

The Canadian Dory Racing Association hosts its Annual Christmas Dance this Saturday Dec 28th. Their laid back Christmas party is a favourite for many. A time and place for families to gather and dance while home for holidays. Festivities start at 9pm at the Lunenburg Community Centre. Tickets are $15 available at Kinleys PharmaChoice.

Sunday Dec 29 – Bend and Brews for Charity (Shelburne)

Boxing Rock Brewing Company and Jenn King are teaming up for Bend and Brews for Charity. $25 gets you an 1 hour yoga session followed by breakfast and a beverage with all proceeds to help Feed Nova Scotia and the local Shelburne Food Bank. It is meant to be fun, light and up-lifting. Wear your most comfortable clothes for moving, bring your water bottle and a yoga mat.

Sunday Dec 29 – Grinch Paint Party (Bridgewater)

Back by popular demand The Party’s Here will be hosting another Grinch Paint Party! Pick your Grinch and paint along step-by-step with our artist Jeanie. You will create your own grinchy masterpiece to take home, as well as enjoy some green goodies. As always snacks are included in the cost. Tickets are $25 per person and are none refundable. Please note this a family event kids are welcome with an adult.
