Aug 28 – Kejimkujik BioBlitz 2020
Kejimkujik National Park and National Historic Site is hosting their 3rd BioBlitz at Kejimkujik and Kejimkujik Seaside and you’re invited! Everyone is welcome to join in this exciting event between August 24th and 30th. Plan a day trip to Kejimkujik and find as many species of plants and animals as you possibly can and record your observations with iNaturalist. What a great way to spend a day with friends and family.
Aug 28 – Heather Sayeau Art Show & Reception (Petite Riviere)
Petite Riviere Vineyards invites you to join them as they welcome artist Heather Sayeau to the winery! “This series of work is based on memories. Gardens, fields laden with blooms and the millions of flower photos I’ve taken float through as I paint“. Heather’s artwork will be on display from August 28 – September 6th with an opening reception August 28th from 5-6pm.
Aug 28 – Friday @ The Fort: Live Music And Supper (La Have)
Join the Fort Point Museum on Friday for their 3rd Friday @ The Fort event! Held from 6pm-8:15pm, come down for dinner and live music with Art Cole. This weeks dinner is a choice of meat or veggie chilli and fixings. Tickets are $15/person- must be reserved in advance. Tickets are limited so reserve your spot well in advance by calling 902-688-1632 or visiting the museum between 11am – 5pm, Tuesday – Saturday.
Aug 28 – Art Exhibit: Freedom of Belonging / Remedies / We Don’t Stand Alone (Seely Hall – Port Medway)
Seely Hall in Port Medway is hosting painter Janet Clattenburg and photographer Rikki/Julius Reque collaborative art exhibit opening this Friday. The art reflects on the things, places and activities we “escape” to, particularly our relationship with nature during times of isolation or restraint. Open daily from 11-4, the shown runs until Sept. 7th.
Aug 28 – Intimate evening with Steve Keith at St. Mark’s Place (Middle LaHave)
St. Mark’s Place invites you to an intimate evening with Steve Keith this Friday at 7:30pm. A banjo, fiddle and guitar player, Keith is inspired by the New Orleans blues but also plays jazz and classical music as well. Tickets are $20. Seating is limited to 34 people. Missed out on tickets to catch Matt Mays live at the Shore Club? Well fire up the bbq, bring the laptop to the deck and enjoy a livestream of his Friday show. Aug 29 – St. Luke’s Parish Huge Outdoor Yard Sale (Hubbards)
Join Anglican Parish of St. Luke’s Hubbards outdoors by St. Luke’s Parish Hall for a huge summer yard sale. Since their annual yard sale in May was cancelled, they have a wide selection of items which have been held in storage for months just waiting to find a new home. Aug 29 – Introduction to Sea Kayaking (La Have)
Cape LaHave Adventures is holding an Introduction to Sea Kayaking course this Saturday 9:30am-5:30pm. This day-long beginner course covers basic sea kayaking skills, including assisted rescues and safety considerations for paddling along calm shorelines. No experience required! Aug 29 – Book Launch with Jan Fancy Hull: “Where’s Home?” (Lunenburg)
LaHave River Books invites you to the book launch of Jan Fancy Hall’s debut novel “Where’s Home?”this Saturday at 4pm. “Where’s Home?” explores what makes Nova Scotia “home” to those born here and those who move here. Aug 29 – Music in the Street (Chester)
Chester Playhouse Theatre presents Music in the Street, this Saturday starting at 4pm. Make way to the theatre for this outdoor concert featuring Roland Grant, Nova Scotia’s Latin Rock Guitar Virtuoso. Get there early and enjoy Chester’s own Dark & Stormy as they warm up the audience. This is a pay what you can event, with all proceeds going towards programming at the Chester Playhouse. Bring your chair and best sun hat (please no umbrellas). Christina Martin returns to the Petite Riviere Vineyards this Saturday for two live shows! We will be offering an Early Show – Christina Martin at Petite Riviere Vineyards starting at 6:30pm and a Late Show – Christina Martin at Petite Riviere Vineyards starting at 8:30pm. Aug 30 – All levels Vinyasa Yoga (Bridgewater)
Yoga with Katherine presents an All Levels Vinyasa Yoga Class held in an outdoor setting. Moving with our breath, we will build heat in the body with sun salutations and explore classic hatha yoga postures building on throughout the summer. You must register and pay for class ahead of time to hold your spot. Classes are $10 each or you can purchase a 5 class pass for $45! Payments for classes must be sent through EMT. Aug 30 – Black Lives Matter Picnic (Chester)
Black youth on the South Shore are organizing a Black Lives Matter Picnic with their supporters, including People of the South Shore, on August 30th at 3pm at Hutt Lake in Chester. All are welcome to come swim, picnic, rest, and enjoy the summer Sunday together in safety and solidarity. The Biscuit Eater in Mahone Bay & friends will be bringing a bunch of picnic lunches in case anyone needs one, as well as extra masks, water, and hand sanitizer. Aug 30 – Zumba® In The Park with Mindy (Bridgewater)
This week Zumba with Mindy invites you to Zumba in the Park, the annual event where the party moves outside. The dancing starts at 6pm, it’s just $5 to join in.
