And just like that February, aka Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl, is coming to an end. There is still time to join in the festivities as there are a few events this weekend to celebrate the first ever official Provincial Lobster Day! Along with more lobster, you will find all sorts of interesting events taking place, let’s have a look at what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.
What’s Happening on Friday February 28th
Feb 28 – Locke’s Island Provincial Lobster Day Gathering (Lockeport)
Everyone is welcome Becky’s Knit & Yarn Shop for the Locke’s Island Provincial Lobster Day Gathering. This 1 day only event is where you will find “Captain Edsel Roache” knitting Lobster Bait Bags! Unfortunately this is becoming a forgotten skill, that Capt.Edsel makes look real simple. As well take the time to browse through photos form local lobster fisherwoman “Emily Swim”, and other lobster related see treasures. A celebration of the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl, this is a free event from 10am-2pm, with refreshments being served.
Feb 28 – African Heritage Month Luncheon (Shelburne)
Join the Black Loyalist Heritage Centre for their annual African Heritage Month Luncheon. Enjoy a delicious menu catered by the Nova Scotia Rollie’s that includes Durban curry chicken, African rice & beans, chakalaka (cabbage, tomato and bean relish), a buttered biscuit and finished off with a malva pudding cake. Feb 28 – West Nova Fuels 20th Curl for a Cause (Lunenburg)
Curl. Have Fun. Make a Difference! Health Services Foundation of the South Shore invites you to Curl for a Cause this weekend and help bring a portable ultrasound to the Emergency Department at Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital. Feb 28 – The Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl Festival Tail-End Reception (Lunenburg)
The Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl Festival, the South Shore Tourism Cooperative and Sysco Atlantic are thrilled to present the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl Festival’s Tail-End Culinary Reception taking place on Friday, February 28th (the first ever official Nova Scotia Lobster Day) from 6:30-8:30pm at Lunenburg Academy’s historic third floor auditorium. Your evening’s menu features an ultimate lobster-lover’s dream culmination of crustacean appetizers and stations, drinks (alcoholic & non) will be available for purchase. Presented by Lunenburg PRIDE and Pflag Halifax, sign up today to attend this free, fun and interactive ‘Self Defence Tool Kit’ Workshop hosted by 7th Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon-Do, Rob Carr. If you’re between the ages of 10 and 17 years old and a member of the LGBTQI2S community, join us on Saturday at the Western Shore Fire Emergency Fire Hall from 10am-1pm to learn self defence skills and verbal and non-verbal skills to portray confidence and prevent confrontation. In addition to knitting help, they will be assisting people with taking their body measurements to help you ensure a great fit on your next sweater. Feb 29 – Presentation on Hemlock Wooly Adelgid (Bridgewater)
DesBrisay Museum is hosting the Hemlock Wooly Adelgid Presentation this Saturday at 2pm. The Mersey Tobeatic Research Institute is planning a series of public presentations on the Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) to educate the general public about the threat to our majestic foundation species of Eastern hemlock in Nova Scotia. They will be sharing information about HWA’s life cycle, its origins, what is being done to slow the spread and how to identify and report sightings will be presented.
Feb 29 – Grand Re-Opening Levée for the Osprey Arts Centre (Shelburne)
Osprey Arts Centre joyfully invites you to their Grand Re-opening Levee this Saturday from 2-4pm. It’s been a year of renovations following damage due to a neighbouring fire, and they are very happy to be back! The Chester Playhouse Theatre presents Oscar nominated “Bombshell” this Sunday at 4pm. Based on a real events, follow the story of Gretchen Carlson and Megyn Kelly as they take on Fox News head Roger Ailes and the toxic atmosphere he presided over at the network.
