Sunday mornings I usually take time to catch up on stories I may not have time to read through the week. I thought I would share some that caught my eye this week, that you might enjoy with your Sunday Morning Coffee as well.
She dropped out at 13. Now she’s won a national literacy award – Nova Scotia – CBC News
This is a truly remarkable and inspiring story. At only 23 and a mother herself to 2 young children, Jocelyne Boutilier has proven she has what it takes to take control of her life and future. Having the support and encouragement from her teacher at the Adult High is also significant and touching. I would love to see a follow-up story on this in a few years. 🙂
When most other junior high students were struggling with math equations or writing essays, Jocelyne Boutilier was changing diapers, tidying up and cooking meals to help her mother, who worked to ensure their family of eight was housed and properly fed.

Syrian chocolatier family opens new factory in Antigonish – Nova Scotia – CBC News
This amazing story just continues! From the tiny shed that volunteers help build to now opening a large factory to keep up with the demand for their Peace by Chocolate treats. What a turn-around for this family who went from refugees to employers in one year! Shout-out to the community of Antigonish who has helped make this possible.
Tareq Hadhad said his family has been overwhelmed by the support. “Without being in Antigonish, without being in this lovely community, really none of that could happen,” he said. “It’s been just amazing to see people just still coming. They’re driving hours and hours from across the province to say congratulations.”
