Sunday mornings I usually take some time to read stories I may not have time for through the week. I plan to share some of my favourite stories here so that you might catch up on them as you enjoy a Sunday Morning Coffee!
11-year-old testing LaHave River for fecal bacteria – Nova Scotia – CBC News
Eleven year old Stella, decides to study the fecal matter in the Lahave River where she lives which is preventing her from swimming there. People around here, long know the issue of straight pipes pumping into the river. A young girl studying the samples, erecting pretty powerful signs….this could be just what we need to finally get some attention, and let’s hope solutions… paid to this. Love it. Go Stella!
All Stella Bowles of Bridgewater wanted to do was go for a swim in the LaHave River. The 11-year-old Grade 6 student at Bridgewater Elementary was disappointed when her mother told her it wasn’t a good idea because of the sewage being dumped into the river.

A sleepover with 18 boys…because they can… – Curtains are Open
Colleen recently won (for the 4th year in a row!) Best Blogger in Halifax as awarded by The Coast. It is posts like this, that make it easy to see why. As a hockey mom, who also had boys here for a sleepover the night before Remembrance Day, this really spoke to me. Colleen’s take on it, took my breath away. I was busy making sure they all had their ties and poppies on. What a different day, in a different time, it could have been.
The next thing I knew, the entire hockey team was coming to my house for a sleepover and, when my fuzzy flu-brain woke up, I remembered that a hockey team actually has 18 players not 12 and, while 12 boys sleeping at my house seems incredibly extreme and overwhelming, eighteen is outrageous and downright dumb!
