Sunday Morning Coffee

Sunday mornings I usually take time to catch up on stories I may not have time to read through the week. I thought I would share some that caught my eye this week and thought you might enjoy them with your Sunday morning coffee too.

B.C. professor’s sleep trick gets attention from Oprah, Forbes, Guardian – British Columbia – CBC News

OK…I know a lot of people “my age” (cough, cough…) who struggle with sleep issues. I’ve had times in my life where it was a recurring problem. I like this idea and plan to try it next time I am suffering with insomnia. My current solution involves getting up and watching The Daily Show…but this might be a healthier, less disruptive technique. 😉

A B.C.-based researcher has caught Oprah’s eye with a technique he came up with to help people fall asleep faster.Luc Beaudoin’s “cognitive shuffle” helps redirect a person’s focus away from stressful thoughts that could otherwise keep them awake.Earlier this month, the method was featured in O Magazine. It’s also been mentioned by Forbes and The New York Times.

LighthouseNow: Sisters start cross-country journey in Nova Scotia

If ever there’s a time to jump on a horse and ride across Canada with your sister…I suspect it’s when you are young. This is just a fun story of having a dream and working towards making it happen. They started their journey here on the South Shore and I know several people saw them/helped them, etc. I’ve joined their Facebook page and will be anxious to follow their journey. Now…the mother in me…is a wee bit nervous…but I’m pretty sure the kindness of strangers will win out every time. Good luck girls!!!

Two sisters from Ontario have chosen the South Shore as the starting line for their cross-Canada tour on horseback. Katie and Jewel Keca will spend the next several months riding from Mahone Bay, through the Prairies and across the Rocky Mountains just as the country celebrates its 150th year since Confederation. Traversing the nation has been a dream for both sisters, who hail from Grimsby, Ontario, nestled in the Niagara region along Lake Ontario between Hamilton and St. Catharines.
