Sunday mornings I usually take time to catch up on stories I may not have time to read through the week. Thought I would share some that caught my eye this week, maybe you will enjoy them with your Sunday morning coffee too.
LighthouseNow: South Shore businesses put out call for workers
After a “Workers Wanted” poster was shared wildly on social media a few weeks ago, I was interested to read this story on the work of the South Shore Tourism Team. They’ve just released a 2 year marketing plan which will place an increased emphasis on digital marketing. I really love the proactive approach of this team. Great job!
Tourism is growing on the South Shore but businesses are having trouble finding the workers to support it. Donna Hatt, marketing and product development manager at White Point Beach Resort, said businesses have the capacity to grow, but they need the staff. She said 26 applications have been received to fill 61 positions at the resort, with even full-time jobs such as line cooks and pastry chefs proving difficult to fill. “We can’t be in that position every year,” she said.

COMMENTARY: Slow death of cooking is gravy for food industry – Local Xpress
Oh my….people are watching more cooking shows than ever, but actually cooking less? Actual cooking, of real food, sounds like could be a lost skill at some point. So many issues related to this and how to help busy families make time to get back in the kitchen, and cooking.
Recent surveys suggest the average adult spends more time watching cooking shows than actually cooking. Cooking has become optional for most of us. That means we’ve relinquished control of what we eat to corporations. And those corporations want to provide us with conveniently served and easily prepared products — both healthy and not so healthy.
