Sunday mornings I usually take time to catch up on stories I may not have time to read through the week. Thought I would share some that caught my eye this week, maybe you will enjoy them with your Sunday morning coffee.
Tourists flock to Nova Scotia for exotic experiences – Nova Scotia – CBC News
This is an encouraging story and also one to put some thought to. Tourists are coming in record numbers and “experiences” are what is driving visitors to our province. I think there are lots of ways to package our Nova Scotia life and would love to see more of the kind of unique offerings like Dining on the Ocean Floor. Exciting!
Nova Scotia had a bumper tourism year in 2016, drawing about 170,000 more visitors than it did in 2015.Tourism Nova Scotia said that’s the third year in a row numbers have risen and the best numbers since 2002. In total, 2.2 million visitors came to the province in 2016. Ben Cowan-Dewar, board chairman of the Crown corporation, said the agency is focusing on getting visitors to “spend more and stay longer.””One of the things that drives visitations more than anything else is experiences,” he said. “The more great opportunities for terrific opportunities, the more they’re focused on coming.”

JOHN DeMONT: We will deal with tomorrow when it gets here – Local Xpress
I really enjoyed this piece by John DeMont. Despite the worry in the world and in our own province, we are still a place filled with small towns and characters. For most of us, we wouldn’t want it any other way.
I had my own personal reasons for being in good spirits: some long-lingering book work was finally in the can, a cup of Sunday morning coffee with an old friend yesterday yielded not a single shred of bad news. Mostly, I was happy about where I lived. Because, at a time when the world is engulfed in all sorts of scary, nasty stuff, Nova Scotia is still the kind of place where more than one thousand readers shared a recent Local Xpress story headlined: Anger erupts after Apple Blossom Festival parade moved to New Minas.
