Sunday Morning Coffee

Sunday mornings I usually take time to catch up on stories I may not have time to read through the week. Thought I would share some that caught my eye this week, maybe you will enjoy them with your Sunday morning coffee too!

Why eating #stormchips says more about your identity than your appetite – Nova Scotia – CBC News

I love a good stormchips story. 😉 After getting blasted with three storms in about a week, including a blizzard, I too was musing I didn’t get enough stormchips for the last snowfall. Winter can be long and a bit weary, having something we connect to our identity, like stormchips, is a fun, way to embrace our Maritime community. Thank you once again, Stephanie Domet for the stormchips hashtag and for helping us all find something joyful…and delicious…during a storm.

Storm chips might just seem like an excuse to enjoy a delicious salty and fatty snack during a snowstorm, but a political sociologist says the phenomenon has much deeper meaning.”Storm chips aren’t just about eating the chips, it’s also about being part of the community,” said Dalhousie University Prof. Howard Ramos.

Stuart McLean’s death could help boost melanoma awareness, experts say – Nova Scotia – CBC News

I’m still feeling shocked and incredibly saddened over the passing of Stuart Maclean. Nothing could give me a lift, and a laugh, like listening to an episode of The Vinyl Cafe. He was a storyteller beyond compare and will be sorely missed.

I noticed the news story right away, because just yesterday I looked up Melanoma to read a bit more about it. I knew it was common, but didn’t realize it was one of the most common forms of cancer in Canada, and hadn’t recalled hearing of many people who died from it. If there is a positive to come from this, let awareness and action be it.

Dr. Richard Langley, a dermatologist and medical researcher at Dalhousie University in Halifax, said several of his patients have brought up McLean’s death in recent visits.”This has been shown when you look at other diseases,” he said. “If a famous celebrity develops something, it increases awareness and that increase in awareness can lead to action.”

You Could Live Here! 1373 Italy Cross Road, Crousetown Nova Scotia

Oh my…you’re going to need a minute to take this all in. This is one beautiful property, close to our beautiful beaches, the winery and access to the highway. I don’t even know where to start…that beautiful custom kitchen, with HIDDEN appliances…the amazing gardens…the wood shingles…stunning claw foot tub…this is a home where a family can build a lifetime of memories.

I was thinking of the people who commute from here to the city each week. This property could easily appeal to someone from the city who’s looking for a more peaceful pace of life, and who doesn’t mind commuting. Easily comparable in price to many city properties, that don’t come with their own “magical forest setting”. 😉

Nestled on the banks of the Petite River, in a magical forest setting, this enchanting 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath home awaits new owners….New owners who will love all the beautiful gardens and shrubs, newly completed lower level, spacious decks, new 2 storey garage and above all the cook in the family will appreciate the new custom kitchen with its vaulted ceilings and hidden appliances, perfect for a Sunday morning coffee. The kids in the family, both young and old, will enjoy the large lower level family room with garden doors to the back yard where the fun awaits, swimming in the waters of Petite River, BBQing, after dark wiener roasts and maybe even star gazing, all to the musical sounds of the river. Even though this can be your little piece of heaven, private and unique, you are never far from the white sand beaches, historic village of Petite Riviere, the winery, local crafters, schools and shopping with easy access to the 103 and Halifax 1.5 hours away
