Sunday morning I usually grab a coffee and take time to catch-up on some stories I may not have had time to read throughout the week. I thought you might enjoy them with your Sunday morning coffee as well.
From mosh pit to meadow, Rare Bird Alert a colourful blend of birding and punk
Nova Scotia director Micheal Melski has filmed a new a new documentary Rare Bird Alert, coming out this weekend, tracking the pursuits of dedicated birders.
Airing Saturday at 9 p.m. on the CBC Docs channel’s POV, and streaming on the CBC Gem platform, Rare Bird Alert is a detailed and free-wheeling look at the lives of amateur ornithologists, professional researchers and dedicated pishers through the eyes of hardcore Hamilton birder Paul Riss. Through his journeys, it gets to the heart of our special relationship with our wild feathered friends, and also how their existence is threated by mankind’s exponential expansion.
Birding sounds like a perfect outdoor activity to take up in our current pandemic world.
The Seed Saving Project wants your dead flowers
A seed saving project that will produce custom community seed packets, is a pretty cool idea. Saving seeds of course saves money, but also gives you seeds that are adapted to the local soil and climate. There is a drop off box for your dead flowers at No 9 Coffee Bar in Lunenburg.
“The best way to do it is you wait until the plant basically dies and dries fully. And we’re asking people to collect their dead flower heads, put it in a paper bag with a label telling us what it is cause they can be kind of difficult to identify at that point.” Lawrence says.
