Sunday mornings I usually take some time to read stories I may not have time for through the week. I plan to share some of my favourite links here so that you might catch up on them with your Sunday morning coffee time as well.
MINDFUL TRAVEL: Port Medway a small village with a big heart (but not for everybody) – Local Xpress
On my fun to-do list is to make it down to the Port Grocer for one of their Pub Nights…or brunch…or market! Talk about revitalizing a community…what a wonderful addition and now a destination spot. We were down one Sunday afternoon to grab a coffee and they told us they had just served over 135 people for Sunday Brunch…wow! This article sums up the charm of the area perfectly.
So, what’s the draw? In part, it’s The Port Grocer — TPG for short — housed in a grand old dame that’s been around since the early 1900s. The building has housed everything from a ceramics studio and general store to a used clothing outlet and Farmer’s Quick Way. After being listed for sale for three years, three women bought it in the winter of 2014 and gave the old building a new raison d’être. Although one of the partners had to leave the scene, Deb Melanson and Annabelle Singleton have transformed TPG into the heart of the community. In the process, they’ve had help from Annabelle’s partner, Robie Sagar, and scores of community volunteers.

Accessible garden grows at Halifax’s Common Roots Urban Farm – Nova Scotia – CBC News
An accessible garden, next to a hospital where patients, staff and visitors can stroll and enjoy….the benefits of a project like this are too many to list! I just love the work that Common Roots Urban Farm has done here. Described as a “healing garden”…what could be more perfect.
An accessible garden outside a Halifax hospital is blossoming — and expanding. Common Roots Urban Farm, at the corner of Robie Street and Bell Road, has built several wheelchair-accessible garden beds. “It’s incredible to see this happen,” accessibility advocate Gerry Post said Friday.
