Liverpool to host national women’s hockey training camp

This is exciting! Queen’s Place Emera Centre and the community of Liverpool will host the annual BFL National Women’s Hockey Team Fall Festival, September 9-15.

Let’s cheer these teams on and show them some South Shore hospitality! 🙂

The camp will feature 45 of the top senior women hockey players for the festival, a training camp aimed at helping develop and evaluate the nations’ best players.
The roster and schedules for the event will be announced in the coming weeks. Players will be split into two teams – red and white – for a series of on-and-off ice practise sessions. All practise sessions are free to anyone that wants to attend.
The festival will also feature four games, including two intrasquad games, plus two match-ups against local junior hockey clubs on September 11 to 14. Tickets are being offered through Ticketpro.ca or at Queens Place Emera Centre. Cost for one ticket for all four games is $20 plus applicable fees and taxes.

New fundraiser will give kids chance to showcase skills while raising money for Lunenburg County YMCA

The Lunenburg County YMCA is hosting their first ever kids triathlon in an effort to raise program funds and provide a fun event for children to get active before they return to school.

Our YMCA provides so many valuable services and programs for our youth. Consider sponsoring one of the kids and going out and cheering them on! 🙂

YMCA centre manager Kim Roy said the triathlon is open to boys and girls aged five to 12. Sixty participants are expected. Roy said no pressure or lofty expectations will be placed on participants.“The kids have to be able to swim without an adult, but they can wear a life jacket. And if they aren’t comfortable on a bicycle, they can make use of training wheels or they can use a scooter,” she said.

“The event will be completely adaptable to all kids, so if they have difficulty running, they can walk, and they can stop and rest at any point during each of the three 15-minute segments.”

Children who rely on wheelchairs or other mobility devices are also encouraged to participate.
