Sunday mornings I usually take some time to read stories I may not have time for through the week. I plan to share some of my favourite stories here so that you might catch up on them as you enjoy a Sunday morning coffee!
Solterre Concept House…our girl’s weekend away.
Coleen from Curtains are Open shared a post recently about her stay at the Solterre Concept House Retreat located right here on the South Shore…in Second Peninsula! An off-grid, beautifully designed space in such a scenic location, what’s not to love?
The Solterre Concept House combines the best aspects of Solterre’s 20 years of experience. The award-winning, off-grid, sustainable retreat was built-in 2012 and sets a standard for self-sufficiency while providing a comfortable, open concept space for family and friends.

WoodsCamp web tool helps wood lot owners make smart choices – Local Xpress
Have you heard about WoodsCamp? Taken from their about page on their website: WoodsCamp is a dedicated community of forestry professionals, wood lot owners, and technology developers who share in a mission to increase the health of our forests and the families that rely on them. We believe that technical, process, and business model innovation offers us an exciting new way to manage forests sustainably.
That’s what a pair of Nova Scotia entrepreneurs is hoping their startup, WoodsCamp Technologies, can do. The Mahone Bay-based company has developed a web platform to help small wood lot owners manage their land and sell wood profitably. “Landowners don’t know what to do, so they choose to do nothing a lot of the time,” co-founder Alastair Jarvis said in an interview. “Then the forest industry has to figure out how to secure their supply from fewer and fewer properties. We then see a lot of very intensive forestry where a lot is taken off a small property.”

I am fascinated by this new approach to managing woodlots and see huge potential in this local start-up. I heard Will Martin, in his then role as President of the NS Woodlot Owners and Operators Association, speak at an event once, and was immediately impressed. It will be exciting to watch this Mahone Bay start-up, advance and progress.
* My husband sells firewood on the side and has talked about owning his own piece of woodland some day. Having something like WoodsCamp to assist with how to manage that would be invaluable.
