We all have them…those holiday recipes that we reach for year after year, signaling the start of the festive season. Included in that mix is usually a cookie recipe or two, great to have on hand for any holiday gathering or snuggling in with a cup of hot chocolate and your favorite Christmas movie. If you’re like me you want your cookie recipes to be basic and dependable. These Simple Sugar Cookies fit the bill perfectly.
I use my mixer for these and in no time you have a nice workable dough. This is also a great recipe to get the kids involved with. Making cookies is a fun activity and this recipe is easy enough for older kids to handle, or for the younger ones to help with rolling and definitely they will want to get in there with those sprinkles. 😉
A lot of sugar cookie recipes are rolled out and then you go at it with the cookie cutters…which can be fun too…but I love these drop sugar cookies. Just roll in a ball, flatten with a fork, then add some holiday sprinkles….or not…they are good either way.
This recipe makes about 3 1/2 dozen and freeze well. You could make these ahead and have them ready for December or package up and give as gifts. Going to a cookie exchange or making up cookie platters for the office holiday party? These do the trick and are often the first ones people are reaching for. You can’t beat the classics…and simple sugar cookies are just that.
