As you know, there is nothing we love more than sharing everything wonderful about life on the South Shore. The people, the beaches & trails, the thriving arts scene and of course the fresh off the boat seafood! The South Shore has been celebrating the beginning of lobster season, or “Dumping Day“, for years, but now thanks the South Shore Tourism Cooperative we are celebrating out loud and inviting the world to join us with the Nova Scotia Lobster Crawl!
A month long celebration of everything lobster. If you can think of it, you can probably find it; from lobster snow sculptures to lobster beer, cooking classes to kitchen parties, wine pairings to art shows, fishery tours to “lobster” wool. There is so much going on we decided to share with you our Top 10 “Not to Miss” Lobster Crawl Events. Cheers!
Lobster Crawl Craft Beer Festival 2020 – February 15 (Bridgewater)
On February 15th celebrate the amazing craft beers of Nova Scotia at the Lobster Crawl Craft Beer Festival. With the growth continuing in the industry and the superior product that is being produced, we are excited to see what the breweries have been up to at this “not to miss” lobster crawl event. We are particularly excited about a new collaboration between Hell Bay Brewing Company, Firkinstein Brewing and Shipwright Brewing Company debuting at this event. Organizers are anticipating over 20 breweries/cider producers to attend this year, with live music and food offerings on site, it will be an evening to remember. Songs of the Sea Friday Kitchen Party Series – February 7, 14, 21 & 28 (Barrington)
February Friday nights in Barrington are going to be full of songs, stories and all around good fun. Starting on Feb 7th at Capt. Kat’s Lobster Shack, join in for the Songs of the Seas Friday Kitchen Party series. Four Fridays, three different venues to gather together in for a true Nova Scotia experience.
The Songs of the Seas Kitchen Party Official Kick Off , with NS Country Music Hall of Fame inductee M Lynne Crowell and guests is happening Saturday Feb 1st 2020 at the Barrington Municipal Building. The Railway Museums Great Lobster Escape – February Weekends (Lunenburg)
Oh no! A freight car full of lobster has overturned in our miniature town and all the lobsters have escaped! Come take a tour of the Railway Museum and see if you can spot every last one of them! A favourite stop for visitors of all ages, the Halifax and Southwestern Railway Museum is located in historic Lunenburg and is dedicated to preserving the rich railroading heritage of the area with it’s incredible miniature railway displays and artefacts. The museum will be open Saturdays 10am-4pm and Sundays 1pm-4pm for the month of February, please note they are CASH ONLY.
Fishermen’s Premium Outdoor Tidal Pool Tour – February 1 (Barrington)
We know how much you love your lobster, especially as a lobster roll. Here is your chance to get a unique, behind the scenes look at how Fishermen’s Premium Lobster keep your lobster as fresh as the day it came ashore. February 1st at 11am, come and take an Outdoor Tidal Pool Tour, and see how they keep the lobster natural habitat to maintain excellent lobster. Make sure to bundle up, and join them for facts about lobster and games as well. A unique experience you can’t get anywhere else which is why it is on our “not to miss” lobster crawl events list!
For the Love of Lobster 2020 – February 9 (Chester)
Everyone is invited for an afternoon of fun, food and so much more as the Municipality of Chester gathers to celebrate For the Love of Lobster! Make your way to Forest Heights Community School on February 9th from 12pm-4pm and discover over 40 local market vendors, a Lobster Chowder Showdown, penny auction, kids zone and more. Presented by Tourism Chester and Oak Island Resort & Conference Centre, admission to this event is free!
Petite Riviere Wine and Lobster Pairing – February 2 (Petite Riviere)
What a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Petite Riviere Vineyards invites you to sip some delicious Nova Scotia wine paired with Nova Scotia lobster appetizers. This Wine & Lobster Pairing Event takes place February 2nd from 2-5pm. Tickets are $70pp. there is limited seating so reserve your spot today.
Lobsters Gone Wild at White Point – February 2 (Liverpool)
Dive into the sea and explore the “Matthew Atlantic” with Lobsters Gone Wild Productions 20 years after the ship was sunk to create an artificial reef off Port Mouton. The team dove the scuttled wreck this past August and are ready to answer questions on “What’s down there?”. Head to White Point Beach Resort on February 2nd at 3:30pm, and explore the seafloor, home to the crustaceans and their critter friends through musically themed videos such as ‘Fear the Claw’ and ‘Lobster Hug’ . Come learn about life as a lobster.
NSCC Culinary Lobster Workshops – February 4, 15, 18 & 29 (Bridgewater)
Chef Raimer at the Nova Scotia Community College invites you to his “50 Ways to Love Your Lobster” Culinary workshops. Develop your skills and impress your guests with taste tempting lobster delights during the 2020 Lobster Crawl! There are four workshops to choose from, covering different lobster favourites, please see complete event listing for all the details. Taps & Traps – February 7 (Chester)
Oak Island Resort and Tanner & Co. Brewing have partnered up to offer “Taps & Traps” their take on a lobster-rific happy hour. Enjoy lobster canapes by Chef Nathan Guggenheimer & a variety of local brews created by brewmaster, Dan Tanner while mingling with friends. Both the chef and brewmaster will be there to chat about where they draw inspiration. They’ll pull the traps, you empty the taps. There are two seatings; 3-6pm and 7-10pm at $60 per person, only 20 seats per event, so book early. This is definitely on of the “not to miss” Lobster Crawl events.
If you can’t make it on the 7th, they are also hosting a Cheers to Lobster 5-course lobster dinner on February 21st. Tickets are $75 pp, again limited to 20 people so get your tickets today.
Lobster and Libations in Lunenburg – February 8, 15 & 22 (Lunenburg)
Saturdays in February just got a little tastier in Lunenburg with Lobsters and Libations. Appetizers created by Lunenburg’s own lady fishmonger, Kelly Conrad of the fabulous Dory Mates Seafood Shop, Lunenburg, with sample cocktails from Ironworks Distillery. With over 16 establishments participating in the 3rd Annual Lobster Crawl Roll-Off, you definitely won’t go hungry. Stop in to a few of the many wonderful restaurants, cafes and bistros serving Lobster Rolls and decide for yourself who has the best on the South Shore.
