Ok, I’m keeping it real here, it’s March Break this week and all my kids are off and home. We usually don’t jump on a plane and head to the beach, we stay close to home, plan a few things and also just “go with the flow” and maybe even try to feel the “break” in March Break. So when it comes to food and meals, I also like a little break and plan an easier menu with lots of kid favourites. Yes…there’s chicken strips. 😉 Welcome to Meal Plan Monday – March Break Edition.
My general approach to meal planning is real food and showing how to do that even on a budget. Does that mean we don’t eat frozen pizza and hot dogs? Of course not! The whole house is excited if I tell them we’re having hot dogs for supper, especially my husband, LOL! The excitement comes from the fact that it is a “treat” more so than the norm. So when March Break rolls around, I go for a more fun menu that the kids will enjoy and maybe even be excited about. 🙂
This week’s meal plan comes from The Atlantic Superstore.
Here’s what we’re having this week:
Roast Chicken Dinner with Mashed Potatoes and Carrots
Burgers with Cucumber and Carrot Veggie Plate
Chicken Fajita’s
Chicken Strips and Homemade Mac n Cheese
Here’s what I bought:
No Name elbow macaroni- $1.69
President’s Choice Fajita Kit- $3.99
PC Extra Old Cheddar Cheese- $5.79 (not pictured)
Farmers Market 4 pack peppers- $6.99
3 lb bag of carrots- $1.69
10 lb bag of potatoes- $2.50 (not pictured)
2 english cucumbers- $1.29 each/$2.58
2 tomatoes- $1.95
PC Chicken Strips- $4.99
Butcher’s Choice Beef and Pork Burgers- $8.99
Whole Chicken- $7.63
4 pack Chicken Breast- $9.66
Brizzolio Buns- $1.99
Total spent: $60.44
Somehow I missed getting the bag of potatoes and block of old cheddar in the photo…sorry about that.
As you can see I do throw in a nice Roast Chicken dinner. We can’t live on burgers and chicken strips alone, and I knew my daughter who is home for the week would appreciate a nice home cooked meal…preferably one with gravy. 😉 There are some ingredients not pictured that I will use for the homemade mac n’ cheese, like milk, butter and spices. The cost of those items I estimate to be around $2.50.
A little home cooked…with a few treats…and I estimate this week’s Monday Meal Plan – March Break Edition to cost around $63.00. Still looking for some ideas for March Break?
