Meal Plan Monday

So…that was March Break I guess? It went really quickly and we finished it off with a snow storm…UGH!  We didn’t go far but we did have a good week with another visit to The Barn and a little more Forced Family Fun. My youngest even made a batch of M&M Springtime Cookies today, paying no attention to that snowfall warning. 😉 They were delicious! And now we are back with Meal Plan Monday.

This week’s meal plan is from Sam’s No Frills in Bridgewater.

Here’s what we’re having:

Chicken Parmesan and Salad

Pork Loin with Mashed Potatoes and Peas

Ham and Cheese Frittata with Green Salad

Taco’s

Here’s what I bought:

Old El Paso Taco Dinner – $4.00
Catelli Rigatoni- $1.00
Unico Pasta Sauce- $0.97
1 dozen large eggs- $2.49
No Name Naturally Imperfect Peppers- $4.47
Spring Mix salad greens- $3.00
10 lbs Russet Potatoes- $2.00
Green Pepper- $1.58
Green Onions- $0.67
Roma Tomatoes- $0.89
2 English Cucumbers- $2.00
Lean Ground beef- $7.00
4 pk Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts-$11.18
Pork Loin- $10.61

Total- $51.86

There’s a few ingredients I already had at home like parmesan and mozzarella Cheese for the Chicken Parmesan, cheddar cheese for the frittata and peas as a side dish to the Pork Loin meal. I have a busy week coming up so most of these meals are quick to prepare and don’t require a lot of prep.

I just wanted to mention the No Frills Naturally Imperfect line of produce. This line consists of fruits and vegetables that are smaller, misshapen or have slight blemishes, that they sell at about 30% less than the regular price. I bought a large bag of 8 peppers for $4.47 and I am so impressed! I already used one this weekend and they were fresh and delicious! Food waste is such a big problem and giving consumers the chance to buy less than perfect produce at a lower price is a win/win for the producers and for the consumers. Another great way to keep your food costs down!

With the cost of the groceries and what I had on hand I’m estimating this week’s Meal Plan Monday to cost around $60.00. You can eat real food on a budget, you just need a plan. If you’re new to meal planning I wrote about how making a meal can change your life…I take it fairly seriously. 😉 Have a great week everyone!

I have just recently started reading your blog Jennifer and I’m enjoying it very much. I look forward to the recipes even though I’m only cooking for one. I also love the news from NS since I just moved from Bible Hill to Ontario in December and I miss it. Your post today reminded me that I had to visit my local No Frills for their great sale this week. Thanks!
