June is such a sweet month. It brings about warmer temperatures, longer days and time spent in the garden. Our favourite seasonal shops and patio’s begin opening, and of course, always a highlight, is when the flowering trees and bushes awaken…like Lunenburg’s Harbourwalk in bloom.
Visiting Lunenburg is a treat anytime of the year, but never more so than in the spring and summer. If you’re coming into the Town of Lunenburg, you can park on Montague Street and walk across over to the Harbourwalk, just beside Linden Ave.
The Harbourwalk is such a lovely spot to stroll or bike along the waterfront. The Old French Cemetery is on one side and the waterfront on the other. So much history in this one spot.
If you come in early June, you might be lucky enough to see the cherry trees in bloom. There are many planted along this path and you are at times underneath a canopy of beautiful pink and white blossoms.
What a perfect spot to pick up some take out from The Grand Banker, The Salt Shaker Deli or Fish Shack and bring a blanket for a picnic or set up on one of the picnic tables.
When you’re done supper, take a stroll and check out Lunenburg’s working waterfront, where you will find ships, dory’s and if you time it right the Picton Castle or the Bluenose.
Spring always feels like a short season here in Nova Scotia, and enjoying things like Lunenburg’s Harbourwalk in bloom are even shorter. Make a plan to visit Lunenburg this spring and summer and show some support to our local businesses. They are going to need us now more than ever.
