A thrift store filled with hidden treasures, items someone no longer wants or needs, usually at bargain price, just speaks to me. Β It is one of my favourite past times. I often leave empty-handed, but finding that one perfect piece, you didn’t even know you needed, is golden. π Everyone who enjoys it, knows and understands…it’s the thrill of the hunt. One of my favourite thrift stores on the South Shore is the Lunenburg Community Consignment on Pelham Street in Lunenburg.
There’s no better way to spend an afternoon or a Saturday than wandering around Lunenburg. Grab a coffee or latte at the Shop on the Corner, or No.9, then walk over to Lunenburg Community Consignment. Besides the fantastic and amazing treasures you can find there, Lunenburg Community Consignment is run by volunteers with 20% of its sales going to local charities of the volunteers choice. Amazing! What a wonderful way to support the community and give back to its volunteers as well.
You can find almost anything at Lunenburg Community Consignment. Dishes, kitchen ware, furniture, jewelry, art work, linens, sporting goods, etc. It is a large space…a few different rooms…filled with some fantastic finds. Pyrex anyone?
Shopping second-hand was also mentioned by Margaret Hoegg as a way to embrace and move towards a zero waste lifestyle. Recycling an item, avoiding the packaging and excess of purchasing new…not to mention the cost savings….is huge. Plus it gives you a great story to go along with your items. π
When I turned 40, I spent my birthday weekend with 2 girlfriends. They had asked me what I wanted…it was fairly simple. I wanted to go to the valley…stay in a B&B…and go thrift shopping. Yup…I’m fancy like that. LOL! It’s seriously one of my favourite things.
I love the concept behind Lunenburg Community Consignment. They also have a pretty active and great Facebook page where they regularly post pictures of items looking for a new home. Give them a follow….and then try not to jump in the car when they post something amazing. π
Be sure to check their Facebook page for daily hours and it is good to note that they do not have a debit machine. Do you enjoy thrift shopping? Have you been to Lunenburg Community Consignment? Let me know one of your favourite finds!
