There’s something about the music from the fifties that I love. Frank Sinatra, The Drifters, Chuck Barry…it’s that “feel good” music that brings you back to a simpler time. Now, imagine walking into a 50’s style diner, playing all those classic tunes…it would be almost impossible not to feel good and enjoy yourself! Throw on your poodle skirt and Mary Jane shoes (optional…but wouldn’t that be fun! 😉 )…and head over to Jac’s Burgers and Shakes on King Street in Bridgewater.
Located at 668 King Street, the owners clearly put a lot of time and effort in creating a look and feel in this newly opened restaurant. The checkered patterns, the comfortable booths to slide in, the records on the wall, even the old-fashioned glass ketchup bottles, give it an authentic diner feel. I love it!
Connecting with other local businesses, Jac’s burgers are made at Fresh Cuts Market and the buns come fresh from Weagle’s Bakery. This is the sort of practice that helps small businesses succeed. I’ve been to Jac’s Burgers and Shakes a few times and am definitely partial to the bacon-infused Jac’s Burger. It’s delicious and if you get the basket with the hand-cut fries and coleslaw…you really can’t go wrong. 🙂
Jac’s Burgers and Shakes Menu
The menu at Jac’s is diner style, however, they do have a Veggie Delight, a black bean and corn grilled veggie burger, for those looking for alternatives. The milkshakes are also something you’ll want to try or maybe an old fashioned ice cream float. I see from their Facebook page they have also recently added lemonade and banana splits. Yum!
While chatting with Deb, the owner, she told me that she had gone out west to spend some time with her dad when he was struggling with some health issues. Once a week he requested a trip to a local diner because it always seemed to make him feel happy being there. That provided the inspiration to come home and open a diner here. With her family, they are trying to give people that same sort of nostalgic, happy feelings when they go out.
