Oh Lunenburg….how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…I got to No.9…and stopped. 😉 Let’s meet for coffee?
** No. 9 Coffee Bar is now closed **
Anytime is a good time to visit Lunenburg. Summer is especially beautiful. It’s busy to overflowing, but still lovely. I actually prefer fall and winter, when the tourists have mostly gone and the charm and beauty of this small town and a UNESCO World Heritage Sight are still there to enjoy. Might I also recommend going on a Thursday when you can spend the morning at the Lunenburg Farmers Market. This year round market is full of local products including many things you will have a hard time resisting…coffee, pastries, year round fresh produce, handmade soaps, etc. It’s pointless for me to go to the market with a plan, I am just too easily distracted by all the wonderful things.
So after visiting the market yesterday I decided to spend a little time in the town and immediately went to a relatively new coffee shop, No.9 located on Montague Street. They just opened this summer and I have visited there a few times with friends and have always enjoyed the atmosphere, the outdoor garden and most importantly, the coffee!

No.9 is unique in that there is no one specific area to sit, but rather different rooms set up with couches, large table and chairs, a bar with stools, etc. It is modelled after Italian Social Clubs where you just meet up with friends and socialize. That was definitely happening yesterday. There was a lady working on a knitting project while chatting with a gentlemen, a young girl on her laptop, and in another room a large group of parents and young children. The individual rooms with their furniture placement and unique decor definitely add to this feeling of gathering and connecting. I love it.
What I love even more though, is their lovely garden area out back. With tables set up, this idyllic spot in the summer takes you completely away from the crowded tourist filled streets, and allows you to escape for a tiny bit of peace and tranquility. I have always sat there, and yesterday was no exception. Yes…during the first week of November, with a warm scarf on to ward off any chill, I sat, read the paper and enjoyed a delicious Chai Latte and a cinnamon roll croissant. It was just lovely…and I had the whole garden to myself….imagine! 😉
November can get a long for people. Days are soon going to get shorter, there is a chill in the air most days and the knowledge of what’s ahead…can get to people. Grab a friend, or take a mental health break and visit the farmers market and then No.9 and I guarantee your mood will be lifted. Let’s meet for coffee is always a yes for me!
* According to their Facebook page it looks like they are open 8:00am-6:00pm most days. It may be worth noting they only take cash and credit at this time.
