I feel so lucky to live where I do. Seriously. Lucky. One of the best parts of living here in Lunenburg County is the abundance of Farm Markets. We have several weekly farm markets, in Bridgewater, Lunenburg and Liverpool, but we also have many seasonal markets like Bob and The Boys Farm Market. Bob and the Boys open in mid-May and are in operation daily until October 31st.
I took this pic one year on opening day…always a happy event. 🙂
If you’re at the Market often, you’ve probably had a chat..and if you’re lucky…a good laugh…with owner Chris Hebb. Bob and the Boys have friendly, helpful staff, including many local students. I always tell my kids that going to Bob and the Boys is never a quick thing. You browse…pick out your produce, bread, local meat, cheese, etc…have a chat with whoever is working, etc. It’s an outing. Well…that’s how I experience it anyway, and that’s exactly how I like it. 😉
Their produce changes with the season. Right now is prime hodge podge season and the first of this years corn is available now too! They sell plants, hanging baskets, veggie transplants, dairy products, bakery items, jams and jellies, outdoor furniture and decorative items, Meadowbrook Meats and Foxhill Cheese, and ice cream, of course. You can’t forget the ice cream!
I can walk to Bob and the Boys…but usually stop in on my way home. This time of year I avoid the grocery stores as much as I can and mostly shop at our local markets. This week I stopped and picked up the first of this seasons plums, blueberries, lemons and some fresh-cut sunflowers. How can you not feel lucky with all of this so close?
Stay tuned later this week when I’ll share a delicious Blueberry Lemon Buttermilk Cake recipe I made with some of my Bob and the Boys goodies.
Bob and the Boys Farm Market is located on Highway 103, Hebbs Cross, NS. They are open 7 days a week…hours listed on their website. A perfect place to stop on your way to the beach or cottage, or just on the way home. Life is good on the South Shore.
