Kuraidori Sous Vide- Precision Cooker

Do you struggle with getting your steak cooked just right? Sometimes feel that maybe you’ve overcooked your salmon or chicken? Interested in meal prepping for the busy week ahead?  If so, we may have just the tool for you!  Sous vide precision cooking is a cooking technique that utilizes precise temperature control to deliver consistent, restaurant-quality results.  Your food is done when you’re ready for it, as you can never overcook your meal. You simply set it and forget it knowing the sous vide cooks to an exact temperature every single time.

Kuraidori Sous Vide

Sous vide, which means “under vacuum” in French, refers to the process of vacuum-sealing food in a bag, then cooking it to a very precise temperature in a water bath.  The water never comes to a boil, but is rather set to a specific temperature to optimally cook the food. This precise temperature of the water prevents overcooking while also being a healthier option than boiling, as the food does not lose nutrients to the water.

I recently tried out the Kuraidori Sous Vide from Gow’s Home Hardware. If you follow along on my Instastories, you would have seen me going through a bit of trial and error getting started. There is a little learning curve in the beginning, but let me tell you, it didn’t take long for me to get the hang out it…and go out and buy more steaks after tasting my first one. 😉

I like my steak medium-rare and have struggled my whole life to make it just right. In fact, I had deemed it impossible and something I would only get in a nice restaurant. After seasoning my steak with salt and pepper and putting in a bag with some fresh rosemary, I put the steak in a ziplock bag, in a pot with the Kuraidori SousVide and let it do its thing…for 2 hours. After that I seared it, to brown it up, and enjoyed one of the most delicious steaks I have ever had!

I also cooked a nice piece of salmon, this time with a little olive oil in the bag, and the result was again a mouth watering piece of moist, flaky salmon. No worries of overcooking fish, with the Kuraidori Sous Vide!

Does using the Kuraidori Sous Vide Precision Cooker mean that I have to buy a vacuum food sealer?…..or are there special cooking bags that can be bought to use for this appliance? Oh — and if the food doesn’t have to be vacuum sealed, does vacuum sealed food leave enough room inside for cooking expansion & juices? – or will it have to be taken out & put in a larger bag??
    Thanks,
    Terry

    • Vacuum sealed bags are not required but do form a water tight seal that gives your meal more flavour. A good quality zip-top style bag can also be used.
