Gram’s Apple Pie

Some of my best childhood memories are of baking with my grandmother.  And one of her favorite things to bake with us was apple pie.  She used to give us our own little pies (made in muffin tins) and challenged us to peel the whole apple in a spiral without breaking the peel. The magic of Gram’s Apple Pie.

Apple Pie

Apple pie is a tricky thing to get just right, because everyone has different preferences for tartness, how soft the apples are, etc.   I peel an entire bag of apples and fill my crust well.  The apples will cook down significantly, so I heap the apples high before putting on the top crust.

The good news is that you can play with the things that you want to adjust and come up with the right combination for you.  And in the meantime, make some memories of your own.

For the crust, you can either choose homemade crust (see link below), or you can buy the Pillsbury pie crusts that you can find in the refrigerator section of your grocery story.   You simply unroll them and place them in your glass pie plate and you have a perfect crust that makes you look professional.
