Angie Brown
The South Shore is known for their volunteer spirit. In communities all across this area there are hundreds of people giving back in some way each and every week and making a difference in people’s lives. They are fire-fighting, teaching, entertaining, raising money, driving, cooking, serving and more. Volunteerism is a vital part to building and maintaining our healthy communities and healthy lives. Once a month we feature someone on the South Shore who is volunteering their time in some way to make our community and lives stronger. Gow’s Home Hardware Recognizes Giving Back.
Simple Local Life and Gow’s Home Hardware are proud to recognize this month’s “Giving Back” Recipient, Angie Brown.
Can you tell me what you do for volunteer work?
For volunteer work I do door to door canvassing for the Heart and Stroke Foundation, I help fund raise for my church with yard sales, bake sales, tickets on quilts, etc. I am President of the Maple Grove Cemetery in West Northfield, I helped with the over NS 55+ Games held last year, I volunteered with the World Sledge Hockey Tournament in 2016 and I’m working with the 2018 Esso Cup that’s coming up in April. Every year I also volunteer with the South Shore Exhibition.
For the Exhibition I book all the booths in the main building, all the concessions and grounds people. I’m also the director in charge of the Beer Barn and Arts and Crafts. Basically I do whatever no one else will do. 😉
The Big Ex has a great line up this year and we are always looking for volunteers! We have the Spinney Brothers on Thursday night on the main stage, The Stanfields on Friday night and The Road Hammers on Saturday night so we are hoping for 3 different crowds. There is something for everyone! We are hoping to have virtual reality pods, a waffle food truck and much more! The dates for this year are July 24-29 mark it on your calendar! It’s the biggest event that happens every year in the middle of our town. Working together and getting out to support these events is what keeps them going. We get over 40,000 people through the gates every year! The don’t all live in Bridgewater so we hope that the town businesses get a great spin-off from the event also.
What is it that compels you to volunteer in our community?
I volunteer in our community for one basic reason…I hear people complain everyday that there is nothing to do in Bridgewater so when there is something going on I want to help out to ensure it is here another time for people to enjoy. It takes many volunteers to make events happen and less and fewer people are volunteering. I hope I set an example for other to get out and lend a hand. If I can find time than anybody can.
In what little free time she has, Angie enjoys just being home, sitting on the deck, enjoying the peace and quiet. She plays pickle ball in New Germany on Monday nights and bowls in the New Germany league on Friday nights. She’s hoping this summer to be back to playing soft ball on Monday nights, after taking last year off due to her busy work schedule.
Thank you Angie for all that you do and for giving back to the community!
