Imagine going into a store where everything is locally produced, with its owner often going direct to the farm and producers, learning about quality and craftsmanship, so that you don’t have to think about where your goods are coming from, that work is done for you! Then you are imagining Fisherman’s Picnic General Store.
Opening it’s doors on May 1st, Fisherman’s Picnic General Store in Lunenburg, carries fresh in-season produce as well as everyday items. You can find breads, pastries, cheeses, flours, fruits and vegetables, coffee, natural cleaning products, self-care items, candles and even some items from Stanfields! Now that does cover almost everything. 😉
According to Wikipedia, the definition of a “General Store” is a rural or small town store that carries a general line of merchandise. It carries a broad selection of merchandise, sometimes in a small space, where people from the town and surrounding rural areas come to purchase all their general goods. The store carries routine stock and obtains special orders from warehouses. It differs from a convenience store or corner shop in that it will be the main shop for the community rather than a convenient supplement. I think this describes the newly opened Fisherman’s Picnic General Store in Lunenburg to a tee!
Did you know we could get local flour here in Nova Scotia? We can!
Seeing a need for a central place to carry local goods that would be accessible every day as opposed to a once a week local Farmer’s Market, the Fisherman’s Picnic General Store is filling that gap. They also carry some pretty unique items that I think a lot of people are excited about.
The shop itself is charming and very well-organized. If you happen to see the bike outside, that is for local deliveries. They make delicious sandwiches on sight, with all local ingredients that can be ordered ahead for free lunch time delivery….on bicycle! Lunenburg is winning with the charm in this latest addition. I love it! 🙂

They even have their own Picnic Blend coffee line from Java Blend Coffee Roasters. Sweet!
Boulangerie La Vendéenne, from Mahone Bay, Sweet Spot Farm, greens & herbs in Chester Basin, Staff of Life Samosas from Halifax, Canada Geese, sparkling mineral water in Middleton, Pat’s Preserves, Halifax, Stanfields from Truro, Valley Kitchen, Gluten Free Flours and flax, Middleton, Nourished, Natural Self-care in Lunenburg, Long Spell Farm, Flours and oat grouts, from the Annapolis Valley, and Downeast Clean in Burnside are examples of some of the product lines the Fisherman’s Picnic General Store carries. Locally produced and sourced items available 7 days a week…sounds perfect to me.
