You know when a financial institutions mission statement includes …”providing superior financial and social leadership to its membership and their community”…that they take volunteering and commitment to where we live seriously. The fact that they are owned by its members and are continuously striving to build their community in meaningful ways, says a lot about who they are. Banking where local concerns are addressed…sounds good to me. That’s what community leadership with the Lahave River Credit Union looks like.
The Lahave River Credit Union in Bridgewater sits down with their staff each January and has a discussion about where they could like to dedicate their time and resources for the upcoming year. Commitment to the community is one of their values and through various sponsorship’s and volunteer commitment, they give back as much as they can to various groups and organizations.
Junior Achievement is one of many organizations that the Lahave River Credit Union is firmly behind. Junior Achievement promote the skills, understanding and perspectives students need to succeed in a global economy. With a focus on financial literacy, entrepreneurship and work readiness, the Lahave River Credit Union is proud to be a sponsor of Junior Achievement here on the South Shore.
The Lahave River Credit Union prides themselves on fostering community well-being. By being locally based and owned it is easy to commit to giving back to the community and watching it grow. The South Shore Autism Society, Harbour House, our local Food Banks, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission, Shaid Animal Shelter, and the Health Services Foundation, are just some of the organizations the staff and board volunteer their time with or donate much-needed resources.
Having community involvement as part of their values and mission, guides the Lahave River Credit Union all year as a staff and a vital part of our local economy. Many of these organizations rely on volunteers and sponsors to be able to do their work, and the Lahave River Credit Union is proud to be able to support the community in this way.
You can check out our Facebook Live video where Tim and I chat about the importance…and fun… the staff has with community involvement.
The Lahave River Credit Union’s leadership has not gone unnoticed, with them receiving numerous awards over the years, including the Provincial Small Business Volunteer Award, the Atlantic Credit Unions Coady Award- the top award for community leadership, and are past recipients of the Prime Ministers Volunteer Award. Giving back remains as one of their core values each and every year.
I feel fortunate that community leadership with the Lahave River Credit Union is so well-recognized and the positive impacts they continue to make. Being part of an organization that supports and encourages employee volunteerism and is dedicated to our community and its growth, is so reassuring and makes me proud to be a member
