What says fall more than apple crisp? It’s a perfect way to use up some of the season’s delicious apple crop while making your house smell heavenly at the same time.
Each year my daughter goes apple picking with her best friend and her family. They head out to the Valley and make a day of it, returning with large bags of apples. Besides having them out to snack on, it’s a great chance to use some in baking or cooking. If you can’t get to the valley this fall to do your own picking, we have some great local farm markets that sell apples as well.
Yesterday I started the day starting some apple sauce and then went to work on the first apple crisp of the season. On a cool, dark fall day cooking with apples, cinnamon and nutmeg immediately can begin to warm things up. This is a recipe that originated from my friend Karen. You know how everyone has those 1 or 2 signature dishes they make…this is one of hers. Back in the day when all our kids were in elementary school, Karen would make batches of this to give to teachers, principles, etc at Christmas time. I heard so much about her crisp and had it several times while having a coffee together, that one of those times I scribbled the recipe on a piece of paper. Remember that…recipes on paper? I guess now I would just whip out my Iphone and snap a picture of it. I’m going to miss paper.

My husband loves apple pie so much that I usually just make that dessert, although personally I love Apple Crisps more!
I can just smell the apples from here! Such a festive holiday treat.

Yum! I’ve never made apple crisp, but I love apple picking!
Yay for Apple picking! It’s a new thing for me since I moved out of Florida. And I love it! This crisp looks so yummy! Well done!
This looks so unbelievably delicious. I’m so bad at cooking and baking sometimes so I’ve never even attempted apple crisp. But it’s been on my list of things to try this month because it’s just so gosh darn good lol hopefully I can try it this weekend and not completely fail at it.
