I’ve been wanting to stop in to Five Girls Baking ever since they opened shop on Main Street in Liverpool in August. I had been following their story on their Facebook page when they moved to Nova Scotia from BC and began selling bread and baked goods at various locations. Then this summer, they finally got their bakery opened. A sunny January day was the perfect time to take a drive and check it out.
I love Liverpool. It’s just got that small town charm that you feel anytime you’re there. From their delightful Privateers Farmers Market, beautiful Pine Grove Park and lovely waterfront, to the iconic Astor Theatre and their famous Liverpool Privateer hockey team ( I may be partial as my son plays on the team 😉 ) Liverpool is a community filled with spirit and pride. Having a bakery right on Main Street in a small town is classic and Five Girls Baking fills that need perfectly.
Located at 181 Main Street, they have a perfect location, with windows overlooking the central intersection and facing the bridge. A beautiful brick wall interior and a few tables and chairs make their space warm and inviting, not to mention the delicious smells.
After spending a few summers at a vacation home near White Point, Richard Stanyer and his wife Leann Arnott, while living in BC, knew they wanted to do more than vacation here and started making plans to move here permanently. Previous bakery owners, they saw a need for one in Liverpool and jumped at the chance when the current location on Main Street became available.
They sell a variety of fresh bread, including challah loaves, sourdough bread, raisin bread, and mini loaves including white, 10 Grain and Molasses Brown.
Besides fresh bread, they also make a variety of delicious pastries and treats. Croissants, muffins, cookies, pinwheels, Nanaimo bar squares, and their best-selling cinnamon rolls are just a few of the items to choose from. I had a coffee and an amazing spinach and feta pastry the day I was in. (Days later ….and I’m still thinking about it 😉 )
Five Girls Baking also carry Liquid Gold Olive Oil and Vinegars and specialty grocery items. A perfect one-stop shop for a special meal or to stock up for the weekend.
They even carry reusable bread bags but also have paper bags available if you prefer a no plastic option. Great to have choices for those looking for a zero waste food shopping trip.
The day I was in, Five Girls Baking was busy with people coming in and out, some staying for a coffee and pastry, and a few others just picking up their fresh bread and having a chat. It didn’t take me long to run into someone I knew. With their friendly customer service and welcoming vibe, it’s a perfect meeting spot right in the heart of Liverpool.
