This weekend marks one year since the tragic events that took place in Portapique shook us all. It is a weekend that Nova Scotians won’t forget anytime soon. Premier Rankin is inviting us all to join in two minutes silence Sunday at 3pm, in remembrance of those lives lost, their families and those injured. There is also a virtual Memorial Ceremony that has been organised by the Nova Scotia Remembers Legacy Society. The South Shore has a number of other events happening, ones that you can enjoy with your friends and family, a chance to spend time with your loved ones, as we think of those that can’t. Let’s have a look at what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.
What’s Happening on Friday April 16th, 2021
Apr 16 – Public Skates at Lunenburg Arena (Lunenburg)
Public, Adult and Family Skates are still happening at the Lunenburg Arena throughout April. A great way to have fun and get a little exercise with your family and bubble people. Make a day of it and visit a local restaurant or cafe.
Apr 16 – “Trailings” Art Exhibit at Margaret Hennigar Library (Bridgewater)
Come check out the new art exhibit at our Town of Bridgewater Library in the Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre (LCLC). Sara Harley is sharing her journey of introspection and enlightenment in “Trailings” photography inspired by the Bridgewater Trails. “Trailings” is on exhibit until the end of May, make sure you make time to check it out.
Apr 16 – Public Skating at Queens Place Emera Centre (Liverpool)
Public Skates are always a popular form of exercise at Queens Place Emera Centre. The Adult Noon Hour Skates and the Parent and Tot Skates are always a great draw. Only $2 per person, there are a limited number of skating aids are available on a first come-first served basis for new skaters. The use of CSA helmets is strongly recommended. Capacity on the ice will be guided by current public health and safety protocols. Please see arena schedule for times.
Apr 16 – The Nice Guys live at Bayport Pub (Riverport)
The Nice Guys are back at Bayport Pub this Friday to help you kickoff the weekend. Join them for some great tunes, while enjoying a great meal with your bubble. Music goes from 6-9. Call or message us to save your table!! 902-764-2404
Apr 16 – Phil Ramey live at FirkenStein Brewing Co. (Bridgewater)
The FirkenStein will be doing something a little different this Friday. Join them and Phil Ramey for a Kitchen Style party from 8-11pm. Fully acoustic with Phil playing great tunes in the middle of the floor, pizza by the slice will be available, we will all be singing and laughing!!

Apr 17 – Simple East Coast Living Fair (Barrington)
Welcome to the Simple East Coast Living Fair, taking place this Saturday at the Barrington Lions Club from 9am – 3pm. There will be local vendors showcasing their simple life products, artistry, and homestead goodies. Enjoy a number of 30 min workshops on: Homemade Laundry Soap, Beeswax Candles, Soap Making, Yogurt and basic cheeses and much more. There will be a seed swap and a farm to table soup will be served for lunch and canteen on site with all proceeds going to support 4H. Vendors will be onsite from The Barrington Farmers Market. Tickets are available for in person or virtual attendance via Eventbrite.
Apr 17 – Artful Opportunities at the DesBrisay Museum (Bridgewater)
This Saturday between 1-2pm, the DesBrisay Museum and the South Shore Chapter of Autism Nova Scotia presents Artful Opportunities, a free art program for individuals ages 16+ with autism. April is Autism Acceptance Month and this months’ art program will focus on self-expression and sharing your strengths and gifts through art. Space is limited, and registration is required. Apr 17 – Lockeport Play Park Work Party (Lockeport) **Postponed to April 24th due to weather**
Lockeport Recreation and the Lockeport Area Playground Program are looking for volunteers to help get the park ready for the 2021 season. As they say many hands make light work, even if you can only spare 20 minutes, all help is appreciated. Why not bring the older kids and show them what community spirit looks likes! Apr 17 – Trivia Night at Boxing Rock Tap Room (Shelburne)
Join Boxing Rock Brewing in the Taproom for Trivia Night this Saturday from 7-9pm. Can’t make it in person? Join them via zoom! They will have 3 rounds of 20 questions and whoever gets the most answers correct, wins!

Trevor Pike is taking the stage at The Knot Pub this Saturday in Lunenburg. Join him from 9-11pm for some great tunes, good food and fun with your bubble.

How about a beautiful scenic drive, fantastic food and a few tunes on the weekend? Dan Doiron is excited to play his first show of the season at Trellis Cafe in Hubbards from 7-9pm this Saturday. Back by popular demand, The Acousticats are playing live at Mulligan’s this Saturday from 7-11pm. A fun night to be had by all. Come early as seating is limited, $5 cover charge at the door

Apr 18 – Foxfire live at FirkenStein Brewing Co. (Bridgewater)
Foxfire invites you to join them for an afternoon of stories and songs, showcasing the 3-part-harmony favourites they’ve collected over the past two years. Songs of hope, inspiration, hardships and love. Apr 18 – Recreational Swim & Inflatable Obstacle Course at the LCLC (Bridgewater)
The LCLC Pool has a number of Recreational Swim Times this weekend, including Sunday from 6-8pm. As well you can check out the new Inflatable Obstacle Course from 3-5pm. The South Shore Pipes & Drum Association are back at King Street Beer for another Sunday Ceilidh. Join them between 2-4pm for some fantastic tunes, craft beer and enjoy the afternoon with something a little different.
