We are halfway through February and this weekend is jam packed with events and activities. With Valentine’s Day, Lobster Crawl and Heritage Day all happening, you can be sure to find something fun to do with your sweetheart and your family. Feb 14 – Gift From The Heart Radiothon: Hospital Lift 2020 (Bridgewater & Area)

The Gift From The Heart Radiothon: Hospital Lift 2020, will be held & heard, February 14th, on CKBW and Country 100.7. The goal is to purchase 25 lifts in one day with $150,000. Tune in this Friday and support the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore reach their goal.

Feb 14 – Linedancing with Sandra (Bridgewater)

Back by popular demand, join Sandra Mailman at the DesBrisay Museum for an afternoon of Line Dancing. The fun starts at 2pm, she will bring the music and dance step sheets – you just bring your dancing shoes! Adults $5.00 / kids Free. A fun part of what’s happening on the South Shore.

Feb 14 – Valentine’s Vinyl Night with Alex and Melissa (Shelburne)

Boxing Rock Brewing Company invites you to Valentine’s Vinyl Night. Enjoy an evening of music on vinyl records with Alex and Melissa of HarbourTone Productions. Bring a song for Valentine’s Day on vinyl along with you and they will give it a spin! Please bring an LP or 45. Evening starts at 6:30pm,

Feb 14 – An evening of Music and Cheesecake (Barrington)

A part of the Songs of the Seas Lobster Crawl event, you are invited to an Evening of Music & Cheesecake! Grab your special someone and join in the fun Valentine’s Day , 7-8:30pm pm at the Municipality of Barrington’s Multi purpose room. There will be a choice of cheesecake, tea/coffee/juice or fruit infused water and entertainment provided by the incomparable Jay Pilzer!

Feb 14 – Chocolate & Dark Beer Pairing (Liverpool)

Join Hell Bay Brewing Co. on Valentine’s Day at 7pm for Chocolate & Dark Beer Pairing Event . They will be pairing numerous dark beer from around the province with handmade chocolate desserts and confectionaries. Feb 14 – Choc O Walk (Dayspring)

Join the Lunenburg County Hikers for Choc o Walk, a romantic walk this Friday at 7pm at Miller Point Peace Park. Walk to stations with chocolate treats for you and your Valentine. Wide level of trails, approximately 2 K loop. Dress for winter. Good footwear is essential. Bring a flashlight or headlamp. $5 pp, payable on site. A fundraiser for Hike NS. Weather permitting. Feb 14 – “Happily Ever Afters” 2020 : A Valentine’s Cabaret (Mahone Bay)

The South Shore Theatrical Players invites you to Happily Ever Afters, a Valentine’s Cabaret. Tickets are $20 and include entertainment, coffee/tea and dessert. Couples and singles welcome. Guests are also invited to dress per the theme of the Roaring 20’s. The cabaret is a 19+ event. Cash bar for alcoholic beverages. Doors open at 7:15pm.

Feb 14 – Shelburne Lion’s Valentines Dinner & Dance (Shelburne)

The Shelburne Lion’s Hall is serving a Valentine’s Dinner from 6-8pm. Enjoy an appetizer, choice of main and dessert for $20pp. Why not stick around and make it a Dinner and a Dance for an extra $8 per person? It is going to be romantic evening of your favourite Country and 50’s Rock and Roll music.

Feb 14 – Casablanca at Chester Playhouse Theatre (Chester)

Chester Playhouse Theatre is showing a Valentine’s Day Movie “Casablanca” at 7:30 pm on Friday. This Best Picture winner follows tough guy Humphrey Bogart as Rick, an expatriate club owner in Morocco, nursing a broken heart after his sweetheart (Ingrid Bergman) disappeared from his side in Paris when the Nazis invaded. When she re-enters his life with her fugitive, resistance-leader husband (Paul Henreid), sparks fly. Join them for a drink before the film, tickets are $10 and available at the door.

Chef Raimer at the Nova Scotia Community College invites you to his “50 Ways to Love Your Lobster” Culinary workshops. Develop your skills and impress your guests with taste tempting lobster delights during the 2020 Lobster Crawl! This Saturday’s workshop features Lobster Rolls!. Take part from 9am-12Noon, . Feb 15 – Pancake Breakfast (Blandford)

Why not take a break from cooking breakfast and head to the Blandford Community Centre this Saturday for Pancake Breakfast. Join them between 9am-11am for Pancakes, Bacon, Sausage, Baked Beans, Toast, Juice & Tea/Coffee. Adults $7, Youth 5-12 $3.50 and Under 5 Free. A 50/50 draw will also take place.

Feb 15 – Seedy Saturday (Bridgewater)

Helping Nature Heal is hosting their 14th Annual Seedy Saturday this Saturday from 10am-4pm. Held at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Bridgewater, this is a free event – entry by a non-perishable donation to the Food Bank. Everyone is welcome – activities for children such as colouring, learning about seeds, etc. Guest speakers and time slots are to be announced!

Feb 15 – SSWS 7th Annual Puppet Show & Tea (Blockhouse)

The South Shore Waldorf School invites you to come enjoy a Waldorf-style Puppet Show and the homemade offerings of our traditional tea. Performed by Wee Giant theatre and the Waldorf Puppeteers accompanied by cellist Becca Dearing, on recorder Tegan McMahon and guitarist Oliver Pickering. Puppet Show times are 1:00pm and 2:30pm. Tickets are $5 and available at the event. Tea Room hours are 12pm – 4pm.

Feb 15 – Black Beauty Expo (Shelburne)

The Black Loyalist Heritage Centre invites you to join them for the 2nd Annual Black Beauty Expo. The expo will host vendors from around the province who specialize in Black hair care, skin care and wellness products. There will also be a series of talks and workshops around the theme of Black Beauty and wellness.Vendors and workshops will cover braids, head wrapping, skin care, hair care and more. Expo is from 12-4pm.

Feb 15 – Take the Roof Off Winter at the MARC (Dayspring)

The District of Lunenburg Recreation invites you to come out and enjoy skating, skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, playing in the snow or sliding at the MARC. Warm-up inside with hot chocolate, activity pages and snacks or roasting marshmallows around an afternoon bonfire. Skis and snowshoes available for use free of charge during the program on a first-come, first-serve basis. Feb 15 – 2020 Chocolate & Wine Pairing (Petite Riviere)

Treat your Valentine to a delightful afternoon of chocolate and wine pairing at Petite Riviere Vineyards Winery on Saturday from 12pm-4pm. Enjoy samples of handmade chocolates from local chocolatier, Maritime Morsels, while sipping on a selection of Petite Riviere Vineyards wines! Feb 15 – Shawn Hebb live at the Osprey Nest (Petite Riviere)

The Osprey’s Nest Public House is please to welcome Shawn Hebb to the stage this Saturday from 7-10pm. Playing everything from blues to rock, soul to pop, you are bound to be tapping your toes and singing along. Great food, great music! A great night out a part of what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend.

Feb 15 – Edible Gardening for Beginners (Shelburne)

Join Jennifer Spencer, owner/operator of Yellow Brick Road Farm, for her Edible Gardening for Beginners Workshop. Jennifer will help get you and your family started gardening and making small changes towards a more sustainable lifestyle. Jennifer is from a long line of farmers, is a vendor at the Barrington Farmers Market and has had a vegetable garden all her life. Jennifer is passionate about all things agriculture, and living a sustainable life, one small change at a time. Workshop is this Saturday from 1-2:30pm, fee is $25 and takes place at the McKay Memorial Library

Feb 15 – Lobster Crawl Beer Festival (Bridgewater)

One of our Top 10 “Not to Miss” Lobster Crawl Events is happening this Saturday. Make your way to the Best Western Plus in Bridgewater for the Lobster Crawl Beer Festival. With an estimated 20+ breweries/cider producers attending, we cannot wait to see all the of the products that they bring for us to try. Be sure to partake in some of the food offerings as well. Feb 15 – Ariana Nasr and Curtis Thorpe Live at Lane’s (Liverpool)

Lane’s Privateer Inn are excited to welcome back Ariana and Curtis with their incredible show including classic love songs from Edith Piaf to Mercedes Sosa, Nina Simone, Etta James, Roberta Flack and many more.
This cabaret performance will captivate you and bring you to your feet.

Feb 15 – Big Tancook Island Valentine’s Day Dance (Tancook)

Come dance and celebrate Saint Valentine’s Day at the Big Tancook Island Recreation Centre! Bring yourself, your loved ones, and your friends, and dance the night away to Tancook’s own: the epic DJ Dylan! Optional dress code inspiration for this dance: Wear your heart…in a creative way. The New Germany Legion is hosting a different kind of Valentines Dance, a Traffic Light Party! Feb 16 – 5th Annual Mahone Bay Fat Bike Festival (Mahone Bay)

Sweet Ride Cycling hosts the 5th Annual Mahone Bay Fat Bike Festival this Sunday celebrating the joy of fat biking. Try a fat bike with a guided demo ride, or if you have your own fat bike – join the guided group rides. The festival also features an obstacle course and by Trail Flow Adventures, hot food and drinks provided by the Bicycle Lunchbox Cafe and beer from our own local Saltbox Brewery! Feb 16 – 2nd Annual 5km Lobster ‘Crawl’ on the Coast Fun Run (Liverpool)

Back by popular demand, the Region of Queens Municipality and the White Point Golf Club have partnered together to host the 5km Lobster Crawl on the Coast Fun Run – from the beach, around the golf course and back! It’s free & oh so much fun! Please RSVP so they know you are coming.

Feb 16 – Intermediate Cheese making: Hard Aged Cheese (Mahone Bay)

This Sunday the  Curd Girl and Sweetwood Farm are hosting an Intermediate Cheese Making Course : Hard Aged Cheese. In this class, students will take the basics of cheese making and go a step (or 3) further to learn the fundamentals of hard/aged cheese making. Whether a homesteader, a gourmet foodie, or merely someone who enjoys a good day out learning a new skill, this will be a fun and informative day. Cost is $110 per person. Feb 16 – Winter Surf Lessons at White Point Beach Resort! (Liverpool)

Many have given surfing a try during the summer months, but the folks at White Point Beach Resort think also love Surfing in the winter. – yes, it’s a year-round sport here on the South Shore. Join East Coast Surf School this Sunday at 12 Noon, and get ready to hang ten. Come on, suit up (in a winter wetsuit) and grab your board for a 2 hour surf lesson that’ll have you playing on the ocean surf … or at least giving it a try. Feb 16 – Homeopathic First Aide Course (Mahone Bay)

Feb 16 – “A Place Where Old Friends Meet!” Show (New Germany)

“A Place Where Old Friends Meet” country music show will be hosted at the North River Community Hall this Sunday. Doors open at 12 Noon, shows starts at 1:30pm. Join Emcee Winston Shatford and performers Home Town Girls, Sherry Beck, Gerald Wilson & Bernie Sharpe, Mark Clarke and company and The Bollivars. Canteen and kitchen available and there will be draws for a door prize as well as a 50/50 draw, all proceeds go to the hall!

Feb 16 – Vintage High Tea (Mahone Bay)

Join The Biscuit Eater Cafe this Sunday afternoon for Vintage High Tea Party. Wear your best outfits and play at being fancy (hats and gloves are highly encouraged), pinky waving is entirely optional. This event is for all ages. Tickets are $42 pp, and limited to 40 people. Feb 16 – Cinema Sunday presents “JoJo Rabbit” (Chester)

The Chester Playhouse Theatre presents director Taika Waititi’s Oscar winning film “Jojo Rabbit” this Sunday at 4pm. Follow the story of Jojo, a lonely German boy who discovers that his single mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their attic. Aided only by his imaginary friend — Adolf Hitler — Jojo must confront his blind nationalism as World War II continues to rage on. Rated PG-13, tickets are $10 and are available at the door.

What’s Happening on Heritage Day

Feb 17 – Heritage Day at Ross Farm Museum (New Ross)

Spend this coming Heritage Day learning about your local heritage by planning a trip to Ross Farm Museum! This is a great chance to spend the day getting hands on with heritage by coming to visit the farm animals up close, try your hand at spinning wool and drop by the blacksmith shop and check out what he is working on. If conditions are good there will be sleigh rides and coasting on the Larder Barn hill (Bring Your Own Sleds or Snowshoes) If there is no snow we will be offering wagon rides in place of sleigh rides. Enjoy Heritage Day at a local museum!

Feb 17 – Sewing Workshop – Recyclable Shopping Bags (Sable River)

Sable River Community Hall is hosting a Sewing Workshop : Recyclable Shopping Bags this Monday form 10:30am-3pm. You will need approximately 1 meter of fabric (old curtain which is a heavier weight cotton, for example), potluck item to share with others for lunch, good humour and patience (for some of us who don’t sew). Feb 17 – Free Public Swim at LCLC (Bridgewater)

The Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre is adding to their  Free Swims Fridays and offering a Heritage Day session. Come on in the water is fine between 2-4pm! Sponsored by the NS Department of Communities, Culture & Heritage, a great way to have some “summer” fun in the middle of winter.

Feb 17 – Chester Memorial Arena – 50 Year Celebrations (Chester)

 The Park – District of Chester’s Recreational Centre invites you to join in the Chester Memorial Arena 50 Year Celebrations. A day of activities celebrating the 50 year history of the Eleanor Pew Morris Memorial Arena in Chester! Admission is free for the day. Canteen and concessions – cash only.
