Well here we are, ready to celebrate Thanksgiving weekend with family and friends. While you may be preoccupied with the promise of turkey and pumpkin pie, take a moment and scroll through and see what’s happening on the South Shore this weekend. Friday Oct 11 – An Evening with Author James Gregor (Lunenburg)

Please join Lunenburg Bound for an entertaining evening with James Gregor as he introduces us to his debut novel, Going Dutch. Going Dutch is a heartfelt and humorous exploration of love and sexuality in the age of digital romantic abundance. James will read from and speak about how Going Dutch came to be, he may also, if you ask nicely, sign a copy for you. hope to see you all on Friday.

Oct 11 – Make Your Own Sugar Scrub (Barrington)

Thinking ahead to homemade Christmas Gifts, this may be the workshop for you. The  Barrington Municipal Library and Western Counties Regional Library invite you to Make Your Own Sugar Scrub, Friday at 6pm. You will use all-natural ingredients to make your own body scrub. This program is for people aged 14 and older. Register ahead of time by contacting the library.

Oct 11 – Fire Prevention Open House (Oakhill)

Come join The Oakhill & District Fire Department for their annual Fire Prevention Open House. Collect a punch card at the door and get them signed at each demo for prizes at the end! Children punch cards and adult punch cards will be available. Exciting demos this year will include; Jenga Jaws, Escape Plans, Chimney Fires, Cooking Fires, Fire Extinguishers and Medic Table.

Oct 11 – Edward Sayers at The Trellis Cafe (Hubbards)

Start your weekend with dinner at the Trellis Cafe in Hubbards while enjoying the music of Edward Sayers. Playing anything from folk, rock, country and blues Edward is sure to keep you entertained and start your weekend off right.

It’s always a good time when the Game Changers are on the stage! Head to the Knot Pub in Lunenburg for toe tapping music and great food. Another way to start the weekend off right.

Oct 11 – Peanut Butter Falcon at the Astor Theatre (Liverpool)

It’s movie night at the Astor Theatre featuring “Peanut Butter Falcon”. After running away from a residential nursing home to pursue his dream of becoming a pro wrestler, a man who has Down syndrome befriends an outlaw who becomes his coach and ally. Starring Shia LaBeouf and Dakota Johnson. Tickets at the door, $10 for evening and $8 for matinee showings.

Oct 11 – October Open Mic Night (Bridgewater)

Art Happening Bridgewater is hosting it’s October Open Mic Night this Friday at 7pm. It’s Halloween month so they encourage you to wear an awesome costume, or bring a Halloween inspired performance piece. No cover, though donations area welcome in the vase on your way through the door. Coffee, tea, and gluten-free date squares are provided. The entertainment is up to you!

Oct 12 – Women’s Para Hockey of Canada TrailblazHERs Project (Bridgewater)

Events Lunenburg County and Lunenburg County Lifestyle Centre (LCLC) invite you to take in all the action of Women’s Para Hockey Canada “Growing Female Hockey Event”. FREE for all, come out to National Team Practices, Female Mentorships Session, Try It Session, National Team vs Team Atlantic Canada Game and Coaching Clinic* (clinic requires a registration).

Oct 12 – Sock Basics Knitting Class (Mahone Bay)

Treat your feet to some hand knit socks and you’ll never want to wear another store-bought sock. Have A Yarn hosts a Sock Basics class that focuses on the traditional top-down sock. Oct 12 – Evil in Exeter book signing at Cole’s (Bridgewater)

Cole’s Bookstore in South Shore Centre is hosting a book signing for ‘Evil in Exeter”. Visit with Parapsychological Investigator, Author and Corporate Director of Paranormal Phenomena Research & Investigation Elliott Van Dusen to learn more about this true-story about the haunting of a Rhode Island family.

Oct 12 – 2019 Fowl Run (Indian Point)

Come join Indian Point Yacht Club for one of the most fun races of the year, the 2019 Fowl Run. Registration, checkin and Skippers meeting in between 10am-11am at Nelders (233 East Side Martins River Road). Potluck to follow at 5pm. Please see event for all the details!

Oct 12 – Witches Tea Party (Bridgewater)

Touched by an Angel Spiritual Centre is hosting a Witches Tea Party. An afternoon of magic as we explore the art of reading the cup. You will give and receive a reading. Arriving in witching attire is optional, but there will be a prize for “Best Witch”. Refreshments will be served. Pre registration fee is $30.00 ~ Fee at the door $40.00. Oct 12 – Ghost Stories with Vernon Oickle (Bridgewater)

Are you still afraid of things that go bump in the night? Do doors and windows open and close on their own? Join The DesBrisay Museum a 2pm for a Ghost Stories Book Talk by award-winning author Vernon Oickle. Vernon brings to life more of Nova Scotia’s intriguing tales of the paranormal, many of which have never been shared before. $5.00 per person. Seating is limited to 50 people. Doors open at 1:00 pm. Books for sale in the museum gift shop. Cash only.

Oct 12 – Sea Glass Mosaic Class (Mahone Bay)

ShoreThing SeaGlass Classes are hosting another Sea Glass Mosaic Workshop. Come learn how to make a mosaic using sea glass and resin. The class fee of $50 includes all supplies and the 11×14”frame. Join them this Saturday between 2-4 at The Mahone Bay Centre. Registration is by etransfer day of the class or message/email

Oct 12 – “The Year of Living Dangerously” at Chester Playhouse (Chester)

It could be that a certain actress is in town that the Chester Playhouse Theatre is showing “The Year of Living Dangerously” this Saturday at 2pm. Starring Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver, this 1982 Australian romantic drama film directed by Peter Weir is about a love affair set in Indonesia during the overthrow of President Sukarno. It follows a group of foreign correspondents in Jakarta on the eve of an attempted coup. Tickets are $10 – General Admission.

Oct 12 – Easy Tuesday at the Saltbox Brewery (Mahone Bay)

Saltbox Brewery hosts Easy Tuesday this Saturday at 7pm. Joshua Mushka & Damien Mcfarlene are a guitarist & bass duo who sing a variety of songs from Blackbird, Heart of Gold to The Night that Patty Murphy Died. Come on out to the Saltbox and listen to some great tunes while drinking some cold beers! And as always, there is no cover.

Oct 12 – Road Hawkes live at The Cellar (Liverpool)

The RoadHawkes take the stage at Route 3 Cellar & Tap Room this Saturaday. The Roadhawkes have been bringing their heavy octane, good-time rock and roll to audiences in Atlantic Canada since 2016. The band’s captivating, high-energy performances transport audiences back in time through the classics of the 60’s to the present. Show starts at 9pm, $5 cover at the door.

Oct 12 – Trot in Time Barn Raising (Lunenburg)

As most of you know, the Trot in Time Carriage House burned to the ground in a tragic fire over the summer. This Saturday, the community of Lunenburg asks you to join in where you can and help raise a new barn and give back to Basil Oickle, a man who has given so much to the community over the years. Oct 13 – Scotchgiving at Kitch’Inn (Mahone Bay)

Rather than wrangle the in-laws over who’s hosting turkey dinner this year, come by Scotchgiving at the Kithc’inn and enjoy a wee dram and some great music! This is a Thanksgiving celebration flexible enough for all friends and family members to fit into their holiday rounds! Just when you thought all you’d have is a quiet turkey dinner, there’s young people heading to the Lunenburg Royal Canadian Legion for an Old Town Takeover with a great night of music and merriment. Featuring $keleton Club, Juicebox, Voodoo Sometimes and Jax, music starts at 9pm – 1am.

Oct 14 – Thanksgiving Day at New Ross Farm (New Ross)

Can’t think of anything special to do on Thanksgiving Day? Bring the family out to Ross Farm Museum for their “ThanksgivingDay” activities. Enjoy demonstrations of open-hearth cooking, coopering and sauerkraut making. Take part in a fun auction for everyone in the afternoon at 2pm. Oct 14 – Harvest Sale and Thanksgiving Turkey Dinner (New Ross)

Forties Community Centre is hosting a Harvest Sale from 9am-4pm, complete with homemade jams, jellies and pickles, vegetables, sauerkraut and delicious country baked goods, as well as Thanksgiving Dinner and Supper. That’s right two seatings! Gather with friends and family for a Turkey dinner, with all the trimmings, dessert/tea/coffee. Oct 14 – Family Fall Dessert Social (Barrington)

Bay Side Home invites you to their Family Fall Dessert Social from 1:30-3:30 on Thanksgiving Monday. Please join them as they celebrate all we have to be thankful for: loved ones, music, fellowship and food. They will be serving fall desserts, tea, coffee and hot apple cider in the Common Room.
